State Policies on Border Defense
Pursuant to Article 3 of the Vietnam Border Defense Law 2020 (Effective from January 1, 2022), the State policies on border defense are stipulated as follows:
To implement policies on independence, sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity; to build peaceful, friendly, cooperative, and developing borders with countries sharing the same borders in a stable and long-term manner; to expand international cooperation, defense diplomacy, security diplomacy, and people's diplomacy.
To resolve issues of national borders by peaceful means on the basis of respecting each other's independence, sovereignty, unity, territorial integrity, and legitimate interests, in accordance with the Constitution, Vietnamese law, and international treaties to which the Socialist Republic of Vietnam is a signatory.
To use legitimate and appropriate measures to protect the independence, sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity of the Fatherland.
To implement the policy of great national solidarity; to build a strong, widespread national border protection force, with the people being the core, and the people's armed forces playing a pivotal role.
To consolidate and strengthen national defense and security; to prioritize resources for investment, modernization of border works, and development of economy, culture, society, science, technology, and foreign relations in border areas.
To mobilize resources from agencies, organizations, and individuals in the execution of border defense duties.
To encourage and create conditions for agencies, organizations, and individuals to voluntarily support material, financial, and spiritual resources for the execution of border defense duties, in accordance with Vietnamese law and international law.
