Responsibilities of the Ministry of Public Security towards the Vietnam Border Guard
Based on Article 31 of the Vietnam Border Defense Law 2020 (Effective from January 1, 2022), the responsibilities of the Ministry of Public Security are as follows:
- Within the scope of its tasks and powers, the Ministry of Public Security has the responsibility to coordinate with the Ministry of National Defense and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in performing border defense duties.
- To preside over and cooperate with the Ministry of National Defense, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, relevant agencies, and local governments where national borders are located to carry out the following tasks:
+ Build and strengthen the people's security foundation associated with the people's national defense and the people's border defense in border areas;
+ Manage the state in terms of immigration, and formulate and promulgate policies and laws on exit and entry according to its authority and submit to competent authorities for issuance.
- Coordinate with the Ministry of National Defense, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, relevant agencies, and local governments where national borders are located to maintain security, order, social safety, enforce laws, and handle military and defense situations in border areas.
- Coordinate with the Ministry of National Defense to train, foster, and guide core forces, specialize in professional skills and laws on national security, order, and social safety, and exchange related professional information to perform border defense tasks.
- Direct the public security forces at all levels to cooperate with agencies and units of the Ministry of National Defense, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and local governments to perform border defense duties.
