Procedure for Vietnamese Citizenship Admission for Children

Conditions for Vietnamese Naturalization:
According to Article 19 of the Nationality Law 2008: Foreign citizens and stateless persons who are permanently residing in Vietnam and apply for Vietnamese nationality may be granted Vietnamese nationality if they meet the following conditions:
- Have full capacity for civil acts as per Vietnamese law;
- Comply with the Constitution and laws of Vietnam; respect the traditions, customs, and practices of the Vietnamese people;
- Be proficient in Vietnamese enough to integrate into the Vietnamese community;
- Have been permanently residing in Vietnam for five or more years up to the time of application for Vietnamese nationality;
- Have the ability to ensure their life in Vietnam.
Applicants for Vietnamese nationality can be exempted from the conditions specified in Points c, d, and dd, Clause 1 of this Article if they fall into one of the following cases:
- Being the spouse, biological parent, or child of a Vietnamese citizen;

Individuals granted Vietnamese nationality must renounce their foreign nationality, except for the persons specified in Clause 2 of this Article, in special cases, if permitted by the President.
Applicants for Vietnamese nationality must choose a Vietnamese name. This chosen name will be clearly stated in the Decision on Naturalization of Vietnamese Nationality.
Applicants for Vietnamese nationality will not be granted Vietnamese nationality if doing so harms the national interests of Vietnam.
Your child falls under the case of being a biological child of a Vietnamese citizen, so only the following conditions need to be met:
- Have full capacity for civil acts as per Vietnamese law;
- Comply with the Constitution and laws of Vietnam; respect the traditions, customs, and practices of the Vietnamese people;
Dossier for Naturalization in Vietnam: (Article 20 of this Law)
Those who are exempted from certain conditions for Vietnamese naturalization as stipulated in Clause 2 Article 19 of this Law will be exempted from submitting the corresponding documents.
Thus, the dossier for Vietnamese naturalization includes:
- Application form for Vietnamese nationality;
- Copy of Birth Certificate;
- Curriculum vitae declaration;
- Judicial record card issued by the competent authority of Vietnam for the period the applicant resides in Vietnam, and judicial record card issued by the competent foreign authority for the period the applicant resides abroad. The judicial record card must be issued no more than 90 days prior to the application submission date;
The dossier for Vietnamese naturalization must be prepared in three sets, to be archived at the Office of the President, the Ministry of Justice, and the processing agency (According to Clause 4, Article 10 of Decree 16/2020/ND-CP).
