Position and Function of the Border Guard

Based on Article 13 of the Vietnam Border Guard Law 2020 (effective from January 1, 2022) stipulating the position and function of the Border Guard as follows:

- The Border Guard is a people’s armed force, a component of the Vietnam People's Army, and is the core, specialized force for managing and protecting national borders and border areas.

- The Border Guard has the function of advising the Minister of National Defense to promulgate policies and laws on border defense within their authority or propose to the Communist Party and the State; performing state management on national defense, security, foreign affairs, and presiding, cooperating with agencies and organizations to maintain security, order, and social safety in border areas and border checkpoints as prescribed by law.
