Military Service in 2021: How Many Years Until Discharge?
Article 21 of the 2015 Law on Military Service stipulates:
- The duration of active duty service in peacetime for non-commissioned officers and soldiers is 24 months.
- The Minister of National Defense is authorized to extend the duration of active duty service for non-commissioned officers and soldiers by no more than 6 months in the following cases:
+ To ensure combat readiness;
+ Engaging in disaster prevention and control, disease response, rescue, or relief operations.
- The duration of service for non-commissioned officers and soldiers in wartime or under a state of emergency concerning national defense shall be implemented according to a general mobilization order or partial mobilization order.
Thus, according to this regulation, the duration of active duty service in peacetime for non-commissioned officers and soldiers is 24 months. If enlisted at the beginning of 2021, they will be discharged at the beginning of 2023.
