Issuance of the Decree amending Decree 94/2016/ND-CP on the guidelines on Statistics Law
On June 7, 2024, the Government issued Decree 62/2024/ND-CP amending and supplementing certain provisions and appendices of Decree 94/2016/ND-CP dated July 1, 2016, of the Government detailing and guiding the implementation of certain provisions of the Statistics Law, and Decree 94/2022/ND-CP dated November 7, 2022, of the Government regulating the content of statistical indicators belonging to the system of national statistical indicators and the process of compiling indicators for the national gross domestic product (GDP) and the GDP of provinces and central-affiliated cities.
Decree 62/2024/ND-CP is issued to:
- Replace the appendix issued with Decree 94/2016/ND-CP.
- Amend and supplement certain provisions and Appendix 2 of Decree 94/2022/ND-CP.

When are the data on the national gross domestic product (GDP) and the GDP of provinces and central-affiliated cities in Vietnam published?
According to Article 12 of Decree 94/2022/ND-CP (amended by Article 2 of Decree 62/2024/ND-CP), the publication dates for the data on the national gross domestic product (GDP) and the GDP of provinces and central-affiliated cities are as follows:
(1) GDP data are published as follows:
- Preliminary data for the first quarter and initial data for the fourth quarter of the previous reporting year: April 6 of the reporting year.
- Preliminary data for the second quarter, six months, and initial data for the whole year: July 6 of the reporting year.
- Preliminary data for the third quarter and nine months, and initial data for the second quarter and six months: October 6 of the reporting year.
- Preliminary data for the fourth quarter and the whole year, and initial data for the third quarter and nine months: January 6 of the subsequent year after the reporting year.
- Preliminary data for the whole year: October 6 of the subsequent year after the reporting year.
- Official data for the whole year and by quarter of the reporting year: October 6 of the second subsequent year after the reporting year.
(2) GRDP data are published as follows:
- Preliminary data for the first quarter and initial data for the fourth quarter of the previous reporting year: April 1 of the reporting year.
- Preliminary data for the second quarter, six months, and initial data for the whole year: July 1 of the reporting year.
- Preliminary data for the third quarter and nine months, and initial data for the second quarter and six months: October 1 of the reporting year.
- Preliminary data for the fourth quarter and the whole year, and initial data for the third quarter and nine months: December 1 of the reporting year.
- Preliminary data for the whole year: October 1 of the subsequent year after the reporting year.
- Official data for the whole year and by quarter of the reporting year: October 1 of the second subsequent year after the reporting year.
What are steps involved in reviewing and assessing the national gross domestic product (GDP) and the GDP of provinces and central-affiliated cities in Vietnam?
According to Article 11 of Decree 94/2022/ND-CP, the review and reassessment of the national gross domestic product (GDP) and the GDP of provinces and central-affiliated cities are regulated as follows:
Review and reassessment of the national GDP and the GDP of provinces and central-affiliated cities:
1. Annually, the Ministry of Planning and Investment (General Statistics Office) conducts a review of GDP and GRDP.
2. Every five years, the Ministry of Planning and Investment (General Statistics Office) leads and coordinates with ministries, sectors, and localities to review the scale of GDP and GRDP. A report is submitted to the Government for submission to the National Assembly for consideration and decision on reassessing the scale of GDP and GRDP.
3. The review and reassessment of the scale of GDP and GRDP involve five steps as follows:
a) Review and update the production value data.
b) Review and improve the price index system.
c) Review and update the intermediate cost ratios.
d) Reassess the scale of GDP and GRDP based on the reviewed production value, price index system, and intermediate cost ratios.
e) Finalize the results of the reassessment of GDP and GRDP data.
Therefore, the review and reassessment of the national gross domestic product (GDP) and the GDP of provinces and central-affiliated cities involve the following five steps:
Step 1: Review and update the production value data.
Step 2: Review and improve the price index system.
Step 3: Review and update the intermediate cost ratios.
Step 4: Reassess the scale of GDP and GRDP based on the reviewed production value, price index system, and intermediate cost ratios.
Step 5: Finalize the results of the reassessment of GDP and GRDP data.
