Is time of conscription in 2024 before or after the Lunar New Year in Vietnam?
Article 33 of the 2015 Military Service Law stipulates the time of conscription as follows:
Time of conscription and performance of military service in the People’s Police force
Annually, citizens shall be conscripted and requested to perform military service in People’s Army or People’s Police in February or March; in case of necessity for defense purposes, the conscription shall be carried out the second time. Regarding areas with disaster or dangerous epidemic, time for conscription and service in People’s Army or People’s Police shall be adjusted.
Clause 4, Article 40 of the 2015 Military Service Law regulates pre-enlistment medical check-up for citizens, specifically as follows:

4. The pre-enlistment check-up shall be conducted from November 01st to December 31st of every year. Time of the second pre-enlistment check-up shall be according to the regulations in Article 33 of this Law and decided by the Prime Minister.
Thus, the time to enlist is in February or March every year.
Besides, in 2024, the first day of the Lunar New Year falls on February 10, 2024 of the solar calendar. However, according to annual practice, enlistment will take place after Tet. Therefore, it is expected that in 2024, citizens will be able to enlist in the army after Tet in Vietnam.
In addition, before enlisting, enlisted citizens will be called for a medical examination from November 1 to December 31 every year.
In short, to know exactly when to enlist in 2024, citizens need to follow announcements from competent authorities.

Who cannot register for military service in Vietnam?
In Article 13 of the 2015 Military Service Law, it is stipulated that subjects who cannot register for military service include:
1. Citizens in any of the following cases must not register for military service:
a) Any citizen who is facing criminal prosecution; serving the prison sentence, non-custodial re-education, bearing surveillance or citizen who has carried out the prison sentence but without expunging of criminal record;
b) Any citizen who is bearing education at communes or is being at reform school, compulsory re-education schools, compulsory detoxification centers;
c) Any citizen whose right to serve in People’s armed forces is revoked.
2. When the duration of measures specified in clause 1 of this Article expired, the citizen may register for military service.
Note: After the expiration of the above measures, citizens can still register for military service in Vietnam.
When is military service health assessed in Vietnam?
In Article 8 of Joint Circular 16/2016/TTLT-BYT-BQP, there are regulations on health assessment for military service as follows:
Health assessment for military service
1. The Provincial Medical Examination Council organizes military service health assessment when there are complaints related to the health of citizens called to military service or citizens registering to take the military entrance exam. and reserve soldiers, recommended by the District Military Service Council.
2. Assessment request: Medical status assessment at the request of the District Military Service Council; The assessment conclusion must clearly determine the disease status and health classification according to Table No. 1, Table No. 2 and Table No. 3 in Appendix 1 issued with this Circular.
3. Within 7 - 10 working days from the date of receiving complete documents requesting health assessment, the Provincial Medical Examination Council must have a conclusion on the health assessment of citizens performing military service and send it to them. Dossier and assessment results for the District Military Service Council.
4. The decision of the Provincial Medical Examination Council is the final conclusion on health complaints of citizens performing military service and military enrollment.
Thus, military service health assessment is performed when there are complaints related to the health of citizens called up for military service; Citizens register to take the military entrance exam; military reserves in Vietnam;
Military service health assessment is recommended by the District Military Service Council in Vietnam.
