Is an Astigmatic Eye Subject to Military Service?
According to Clause 3, Article 4, Circular 148/2018/TT-BQP stipulates health requirements for conscription as follows:
- Select citizens who have health categories 1, 2, 3 according to the provisions of Joint Circular No. 16/2016/TTLT-BYT-BQP dated June 30, 2016, by the Minister of Health and the Minister of National Defense stipulating the health examination for military service.
- For agencies, units, and positions stipulated in Point b, Clause 2 of this Article, ensure selection meets specific standards as regulated by the Ministry of National Defense.
- Do not conscript citizens with health category 3 having refractive errors of the eyes (myopia of 1.5 diopters or higher, hyperopia of any degree); drug addiction, HlV infection, or AIDS.
=>Based on Section II, Appendix I of Joint Circular 16/2016/TTLT-BYT-BQP, which stipulates health standards, if you have an astigmatism of 0.5 degrees in both eyes, you are classified under health category 6 and are therefore exempt from military service.
