Rank Officer: 53;
Major: 55;
Lieutenant Colonel: 57;
Colonel: 59;
Senior Colonel: 61;
General: 63.
- The highest service age limit for the Chief Commander of a military command board at the commune level is applied according to the provisions of the Labor Code.
According to the above regulation, the maximum age limit for reserve officers in Vietnam from December 1, 2024, is as follows:
- Rank Officer: 53 (increased by 02 years)
- Major: 55 (increased by 02 years)
- Lieutenant Colonel: 57 (increased by 01 year)
- Colonel: 59 (increased by 02 years)
- Senior Colonel: 61 (increased by 01 year)
- General: 63 (remains unchanged)

What military rank is conferred upon graduates of reserve officer training in Vietnam?
Based on Article 41 of the Vietnam People's Army Officers Law 1999 (amended and supplemented by Clause 12 Article 1 of the Amended Vietnam People's Army Officers Law 2024, and Point b Clause 2 Article 49 of the Vietnam Militia and Self-defense Law 2019), the appointment of positions, ranking, and promotion of reserve officer ranks is regulated as follows:
Article 41. Appointment of Positions, Ranking, Promotion of Reserve Officer Ranks
The appointment of positions, ranking, and promotion of reserve officer ranks is regulated as follows:
- Graduates of reserve officer training, graduates of training for the Chief Commander of a military command board at the commune level in military grassroots sectors, based on educational qualification, study, and training results are conferred reserve officer ranks.
- Officials graduating from reserve officer training are assessed for conferment of appropriate reserve officer ranks based on the position assigned in reserve mobilization units, study, training results, and current salary level;
- Based on staffing needs, officer position standards, military study results, and national defense service achievements, reserve officers are appointed positions in reserve mobilization units or hold the position of Chief Commander of a military command board at the commune level and are promoted to ranks corresponding to the assigned position. The Minister of National Defense prescribes equivalent positions and the highest rank for reserve officers holding the position of Chief Commander of a military command board at the commune level;
- The term for promotion review in reserve officer ranks is 2 years longer than the term for each rank of active officer ranks stipulated in Clause 2 Article 17 of this Law;
- Reserve officers joining active service are considered for appropriate rank promotion based on standards, rank regulations of the assigned position, current reserve officer rank, and promotion review period.

Based on the Government of Vietnam's decision, the calling for reserve officer training, calling reserve officers into active service, training, motivational readiness inspection, and combat readiness are executed following these regulations:
- Calling for reserve officer training:
a. The Minister of National Defense decides for professional military personnel, non-commissioned officers preparing for demobilization, and individuals graduating from university level or higher outside the military;
b. The Chairman of the district-level People's Committee decides for officials, non-commissioned reserve officers residing locally.
- Calling reserve officers into active service during wartime; training, motivational readiness inspection, combat readiness:
a. The Minister of National Defense decides for reserve officers in command positions of Brigade and equivalent, Division and equivalent; reserve officers with the rank of Senior Colonel;
