How many years does it take for a Second Lieutenant to be promoted to First Lieutenant in the army?
According to Clause 4, Article 1 of the amended 2014 Law on Officers of the Vietnam People’s Army, the time limit for considering rank promotion for active-duty officers is specified as follows:

Senior Lieutenant to Captain: 3 years;
Captain to Major: 4 years;
Major to Lieutenant Colonel: 4 years;
Lieutenant Colonel to Senior Colonel: 4 years;
Senior Colonel to Colonel: 4 years;
....
Thus, the period for considering promotion from First Lieutenant to Senior Lieutenant is 3 years. Additionally, to be promoted ahead of time, the officer must meet the following conditions:
- Achieving outstanding feats in combat or being awarded a Medal for exceptional accomplishments in duty or scientific research;
- Successfully fulfilling responsibilities and duties where the current rank is two or more grades lower than the highest rank prescribed for the current position, or the current rank is lower than the highest rank for the command and management position.
Respectfully!
