Vietnamese citizens are eligible to join military in 2024 in Vietnam if they are satisfied following requirements: Age; political standards; cultural standards, health standards.
- Draft citizens with health type 1, 2, 3 as specified per law.
- For secret agencies, units and key positions in the Army; the Pepper and Ceremony forces; The professional military guard and control force conducts selection according to regulations of the Ministry of National Defense and selects to ensure specific standards according to regulations of the Ministry of National Defense.
- Do not call into the Army citizens with health category 3 of eye refractive error (myopia 1.5 diopters or more, farsightedness of all levels); drug addiction, HIV infection, AIDS.
Pursuant to Clause 4, Article 9 of the Joint Circular 16/2016/TTLT-BYT-BQP stipulating classification of health as follows:
Based on the score for 8 criteria recorded in the military service health card to classify, specifically as follows:
- Type 1: 8 indicators all score 1;

Can people infected with HIV/AIDS be drafted for military service in Vietnam?

As regulations above, people infected with HIV/AIDS shall not be drafted for military service in Vietnam.

As regulations above, citizens with 1.5 dioptre myopia shall not be conscripted.
However, if in the latter case, citizens use technology to support measures such as eye laser, they may still be recruited for regular military service.
