What is the highest military rank for professional soldiers?
Based on Article 16 of the Law on Professional Soldiers, Defense Workers, and Public Employees 2015 regarding the military ranks of professional soldiers, the provisions are as follows:
The military ranks of professional soldiers are determined corresponding to their technical and professional qualifications and salary levels, including:
a) Senior Lieutenant Colonel - Professional soldier;
b) Major - Professional soldier;
c) Captain - Professional soldier;
d) First Lieutenant - Professional soldier;
e) Second Lieutenant - Professional soldier;
f) Junior Lieutenant - Professional soldier.
The highest military ranks for professional soldiers include:
a) Senior rank: Senior Lieutenant Colonel - Professional soldier;
b) Intermediate rank: Major - Professional soldier;
c) Junior rank: Captain - Professional soldier.
The Minister of National Defense prescribes the military ranks of professional soldiers corresponding to the salary levels of each category.
Therefore, according to the above provisions, it can be seen that the highest military rank for professional soldiers serving in the Vietnam People's Army is the rank of Senior Lieutenant Colonel - Professional soldier.
How is the salary of Senior Lieutenant Colonel - Professional Soldier determined?
Based on Article 4 of Circular 170/2016/TT-BQP which stipulates the military ranks of professional soldiers corresponding to salary levels as follows:
The rank of Junior Lieutenant - Professional soldier corresponds to a salary coefficient of less than 3.95.
The rank of Second Lieutenant - Professional soldier corresponds to a salary coefficient from 3.95 to less than 4.45.
The rank of First Lieutenant - Professional soldier corresponds to a salary coefficient from 4.45 to less than 4.90.
The rank of Captain - Professional soldier corresponds to a salary coefficient from 4.90 to less than 5.30.
The rank of Major - Professional soldier corresponds to a salary coefficient from 5.30 to less than 6.10.
The rank of Senior Lieutenant Colonel - Professional soldier corresponds to a salary coefficient from 6.10 to less than 6.80.
The rank of Senior Lieutenant Colonel - Professional soldier corresponds to a salary coefficient of 6.80 or higher.
Senior Lieutenant Colonel, the highest rank for professional soldiers serving in the Vietnam People's Army, will receive a salary with a coefficient of 6.80 or higher.
