Functions of the People's Public Security under the Law on People's Public Security 2018

On November 20, 2018, the National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, 14th Legislature, during its 6th session, passed the People's Public Security Law No. 37/2018/QH14 (referred to as the People's Public Security Law 2018).

The People's Public Security Law 2018 provides regulations on organizational principles, activities; positions, functions, duties, powers; ensures operational conditions and policies related to the People's Public Security; and responsibilities of related agencies, organizations, individuals.

According to the People's Public Security Law 2018 (effective from July 1, 2019), the People's Public Security is the core armed force in implementing the tasks of safeguarding national security, ensuring social order and safety, and combating crime and violations of the law concerning national security, social order, and safety.

According to Article 15 of the People's Public Security Law 2018, the functions of the People's Public Security are specified as follows:

The People's Public Security has the function to advise the Communist Party and the State on safeguarding national security, ensuring social order and safety, combating crime, and violations of the law concerning national security, social order, and safety; implementing state management on safeguarding national security, ensuring social order and safety, combating crime, and violations of the law concerning national security, social order, and safety; combating plots and activities of hostile forces, all types of crime and violations of the law concerning national security, social order, and safety.
