Father-in-law Expelled from Communist Party; Can the Son-in-law Join the Communist Party?

I have a question that I hope you can answer. My father-in-law was expelled from the party, so can I join the party?

According to the regulations in the Charter of the Communist Party of Vietnam 2011 and Regulation 29-QD/TW in 2016, individuals joining the Communist Party must meet the following conditions:

- Age;

- Educational qualifications;

- Acknowledge and voluntarily abide by the political platform and Charter of the Communist Party;

- Gaining the trust of the people;

- Having a clear personal history and must undergo a 12-month probation period.

To be specific: you can refer to detailed information in the article: Conditions for Joining the Party in 2020

When considering your admission to the Communist Party, both you and your family members will be investigated regarding your personal history. According to Section 3.4 of Guidance 01-HD/TW in 2016, the investigation of the personal history of individuals joining the Communist Party is regulated as follows:

*Individuals whose background needs to be investigated include:

- Individuals joining the Communist Party.

- Biological parents, parents-in-law, or individuals directly raising the applicant; spouse or biological children of individuals joining the Communist Party who have full civil competence (hereafter collectively referred to as relatives).

*Content of the investigation and verification:

- For individuals joining the Communist Party: clarify issues regarding political history and current political stance; adherence to the lines, policies of the Communist Party, and state laws; political qualities, ethics, and lifestyle.

- For relatives: clarify issues regarding political history and current political stance; adherence to the lines, policies of the Communist Party, and state laws.

Therefore, your father-in-law is not identified as a relative for the purpose of background investigation. Furthermore, there is no regulation stating that if the father-in-law is expelled from the Party, the son-in-law cannot join the Party. Hence, the expulsion of your father-in-law from the Communist Party does not affect your admission to the Communist Party.

Thus, when you meet all the standards as regulated, you can join the Communist Party.

Sincerely!
