Civil Status Includes What Contents?
Clause 1, Article 2 of the 2014 Civil Status Law stipulates:
Civil status refers to events prescribed by law, which confirm the personal status of an individual from birth to death.
Article 3 of this Law stipulates:
The content of civil status registration includes confirmation of civil status events in the Civil Status Register and recording in the Civil Status Register of changes in the civil status of individuals according to judgments or decisions of competent state authorities, specifically:
- Confirming civil status events in the Civil Status Register:
- Birth registration;
- Marriage;
- Guardianship;
- Acknowledgement of parentage;
- Change, correction of civil status, redefining ethnicity, supplementing civil status information;
- Death registration.
- Recording changes in the civil status of individuals in the Civil Status Register according to judgments or decisions of competent state authorities:
- Change of nationality;
- Determining parentage;
- Redefining gender;
- Adoption, termination of adoption;
- Divorce, annulment of unlawful marriage, recognition of marriage;
- Recognition of guardianship;
- Declaration or cancellation of declaration of a missing person, deceased, or a person with or limited civil act capacity.
- Recording in the Civil Status Register the event of birth registration; marriage; divorce; marriage annulment; guardianship; acknowledgement of parentage; determining parentage; adoption; change of civil status; death registration of Vietnamese citizens resolved at competent authorities abroad.
