Cases of Full or Partial Declassification of State Secrets
On November 15, 2018, the National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, Legislature XIV, at its 6th session, passed the Law on State Secret Protection No. 29/2018/QH14 (referred to as the Law on State Secret Protection 2018).
The Law on State Secret Protection 2018 stipulates about state secrets, activities to protect state secrets, and the responsibilities of relevant agencies, organizations, and individuals.
According to Clause 2, Article 22 of the Law on State Secret Protection 2018 (effective from July 1, 2020), state secrets shall be entirely or partially declassified in the following cases:
- The expiration of the protection period for state secrets as stipulated in Article 19 of the Law on State Secret Protection 2018 and the extension period stipulated in Article 20 of the Law on State Secret Protection 2018;
- Meeting practical requirements for protecting national and ethnic interests; developing the economy - society; international integration and cooperation;
- No longer listed as state secrets.
