Hello, I graduated from a college majoring in accounting - auditing and currently work as a treasurer for an organization. I am about to take the exam to upgrade to an intermediate-level accountant, but I only have a college degree. Am I eligible to take the exam for the upgrade? What are the job requirements for an intermediate-level accountant?

Based on Clause 3, Clause 4, and Clause 5 of Article 8 of Circular 29/2022/TT-BTC, standards for intermediate-level accountants are as follows:
3. Standards for professional competence
a) Understand the accounting regulations and rules of the industry and field; specific regulations on the forms and methods of accounting applied within the unit and the industry;
b) Understand and comply with accounting laws, accounting principles, financial and statistical regulations, accounting standards, and related economic information;
c) Understand the basic principles of business processes and document circulation within the unit;
d) Have the ability to acquire and master necessary skills such as computer skills, accounting software, electronic documents; have the ability to implement according to the instructions of superiors;
e) Proficiently use office equipment and other devices to meet job requirements.
4. Standards for training and development
Have a diploma or higher in accounting, auditing, or finance.
5. For civil servants holding the positions of bank auditors (code 07.047), bank treasurers (code 06.034), agency treasurers (code 06.035), to take the exam to be promoted to intermediate-level accountants, they must have held the positions of bank auditors, bank treasurers, agency treasurers for a minimum of 3 years or more (excluding probationary and internship periods). In case of equivalent experience, the minimum time to hold the positions of bank auditors, bank treasurers, agency treasurers is 1 year (12 months) until the deadline for submitting the application for the promotion exam.
Thus, a college degree in accounting, audit or finance is enough to qualify a person for the position of intermediate accountant. A university degree is not mandatory for this position.

According to Clause 2 of Article 8 of Circular 29/2022/TT-BTC, the tasks of an intermediate-level accountant are as follows:
2. Tasks
a) Collect, verify, process documents, classify documents, and make journal entries for assigned economic transactions;
b) Open, record, and close accounting books for assigned tasks;
c) Prepare financial reports, state budget settlement reports, and other daily or periodic reports according to the assigned accounting tasks, and be responsible for the accuracy and truthfulness of the reported data;
d) Prepare data for asset inventory, participate in asset inventory, guide the recording of inventory forms, and calculate and determine the results of asset inventory within the scope of responsibility;
e) Analyze and evaluate the management and use of assets and funds within the scope of responsibility.
