Voluntary Social Insurance Contribution of 154,000 VND/Month: Is a Free Health Insurance Card Issued Upon Retirement?
Section 6 Article 1 of the 2014 Amended Health Insurance Law (amending Article 12 of the 2008 Health Insurance Law) regulates the groups participating in health insurance, as follows:
Group with contributions paid by the social insurance organization, which includes:
- Individuals receiving pensions and monthly labor incapacity allowances;
- Individuals receiving monthly social insurance benefits due to occupational accidents, occupational diseases or long-term treatment-requiring diseases; individuals aged 80 or older receiving monthly death benefits;
- Commune, ward, commune-level town officials who have retired and are receiving monthly social insurance benefits;
- Individuals receiving unemployment benefits.
Individuals receiving pensions are entitled to have their health insurance contributions paid by the social insurance organization. The law does not stipulate a required social insurance contribution level for pensioners to be issued health insurance cards. Furthermore, the timing of pension entitlement is based on age and the number of years of social insurance contributions.
Therefore, if you voluntarily contribute to social insurance at a rate of 154,000 VND/month, when you qualify for pension entitlement, you will still be issued a free health insurance card.
