Vietnam: Do employees on maternity leave continue to enjoy the health insurance benefits?
According to Clause 6, Article 42 of Decision 595/QD-BHXH in 2017 on the management of participants in Vietnam:
If an employee in Vietnam takes leave due to maternity for at least 14 working days in a month, both he/she and his/her employer are not required to pay social insurance, unemployment insurance, occupational accident and occupational disease premiums; this period will be included in the period of social insurance premium payment and his/her health insurance premiums will be paid by the social insurance authority.
At the same time, according to Clause 5, Article 2 of Decree 146/2018/ND-CP, employees on maternity leave upon childbirth and adoption will have their health insurance premiums paid by the social insurance authority.
Therefore, you can inform the employees that during maternity leave, the social insurance authority in Vietnam will pay health insurance premiums for them and they will continue to enjoy the health insurance benefits.
