Is Coronary Angiography Covered by Health Insurance?
According to Schedule 2 Issued together with Circular 35/2016/TT-BYT regulating that Health Insurance (BHYT) will cover the costs of coronary angiography in the following cases:
- Acute myocardial infarction with ST elevation;
- Unstable angina and non-ST elevation myocardial infarction;
- Stable angina but optimal medical treatment cannot control the symptoms;
- After out-of-hospital cardiac arrest emergency;
- Recurrent chest pain after coronary intervention or after bypass surgery;
- Heart failure of unknown cause;
- Patients with dangerous arrhythmias (ventricular tachycardia, atrioventricular block).
Additionally, for Health Insurance (BHYT) to cover the costs of coronary angiography, the following conditions must be met (Clause 1, Article 7 of Circular 50/2017/TT-BYT; Article 3 of Circular 35/2016/TT-BYT):
- Approved by competent authorities to be performed at medical examination and treatment facilities;
- Implemented according to professional processes approved by competent authorities, specifically:
+ Medical examination and treatment facilities must apply and implement professional guidance documents on diagnosis, treatment, and technical procedures issued by the Ministry of Health or issued by the head of the medical examination and treatment facility based on guidelines from the Ministry of Health and the actual conditions of the facility.
+ For medical services that have not been issued professional guidelines or technical procedures by the Ministry of Health, the head of the medical examination and treatment facility should develop and issue professional guidelines or technical procedures for implementation at the facility based on referencing official documents, scientific evidence, and suitability with the facility's conditions.
+ When issuing professional guidelines or technical procedures for implementation at the facility, the head of the medical examination and treatment facility is responsible for sending the issued guidelines or procedures to the provincial social insurance agency where the medical examination and treatment facility is located.
- Approved by competent authorities for the pricing of medical examination and treatment services covered by health insurance.
Therefore, if you fall into one of the above cases and meet all the conditions, you will be covered by Health Insurance (BHYT) for the costs of coronary angiography.
