Incorrect Birth Year on Health Insurance: Can It Be Changed?
According to Clause 1, Article 19 of the Law on Health Insurance 2008, the circumstances for changing a health insurance card are specified as follows:
- Torn, damaged, or defaced;
- Change of initial medical examination and treatment location;
- Incorrect information on the card.
Based on Article 12 of Decree 146/2018/ND-CP, the information on the health insurance card is regulated as follows:
- Personal information of the health insurance participant, including: Full name; gender; date of birth; address of residence or workplace.
- Health insurance benefit level as stipulated in Article 14 of this Decree.
- The date the health insurance card becomes valid.

Thus, when your date of birth is incorrect compared to your ID card, you need to change your health insurance card. The health insurance card change procedure is as follows:
* Health insurance card change documents include:
- Declaration of participation, adjustment of health insurance information (Form TK1-TS).
- Request form for card change from the health insurance participant;
- Incorrect health insurance card.

* Place to submit documents:
In principle, submit the health insurance card change procedure at the location where the health insurance participation is recorded (Clause 3, Article 3 of this Process).
* Processing time:
Within 7 working days from the date of receipt of the complete prescribed documents, the health insurance organization must change the health insurance card for the participant. During the waiting period for the card change, the cardholder still enjoys the benefits of a health insurance participant (Clause 3, Article 19 of this Law).
