Hello, my teeth have been uneven since childhood, do you want to put back the braces for beauty, can you tell me if I have health insurance, will I be paid by health insurance? Please advice. Thankyou.
Are braces in Vietnam paid by health insurance?
In Article 23 of the Law on Health Insurance 2008, there are provisions on cases of not enjoying health insurance as follows:
1. Cases specified in Clause 1 of Article 21 in which costs have been paid by the state budget.
2. Convalescence at sanatoria or convalescence establishments.
3. Medical check-up.
4. Prenatal tests and diagnosis for non-treatment purposes.
5. Use of obstetric supportive techniques, family planning services or abortion services, except for cases of discontinuation of pregnancy due to fetal or maternal diseases.
6. Use of aesthetic services.
7. Treatment of squint, short-sightedness and refractive defects.
8. Use of prostheses including artificial limbs, eyes, teeth, glasses, hearing aids or movement aids in medical examination, treatment and function rehabilitation.

Pursuant to current regulations, the bracing is considered a legal service. Therefore, in case you have braces, you will not be covered by health insurance in Vietnam.
Is the private general hospital in Vietnam paying for health insurance?
In Clause 17, Article 1 of the 2014 Amended Law on Health Insurance , there are provisions on medical examination and treatment establishments as follows:
A medical examination and treatment establishment is a medical establishment under the provisions of the Law on Medical Examination and Treatment which has signed a medical examination and treatment contract with a social health insurance organization.
According to this Article, in case the private general hospital in Vietnam has signed a medical examination and treatment contract with the social health insurance organization, it will make payment of health insurance for patients.
