Based on Section IV of the General Education Program for the subject of History and Geography (primary level) issued with Circular 32/2018/TT-BGDDT:
The subject of History and Geography develops students' competencies in history and geography, which are manifestations of scientific competencies with the following components: scientific cognition of history and geography; exploration of history and geography; application of acquired knowledge and skills. The manifestations of these competency components are presented in the table below:

EXPLORATION OF HISTORY AND GEOGRAPHY | - Know how to observe and research materials to find information or conduct simple investigations to understand historical events and geographical phenomena; be able to read charts, diagrams, natural and population maps, etc., at a basic level. - From sources of documents, data, charts, diagrams, maps, etc., make comments on the characteristics and relationships between historical events and geographical objects and phenomena. - Present their opinions about certain historical events, figures, and geographical phenomena, etc. - Compare, comment, and distinguish the diversity of nature, population, history, and culture in some regions; comment on the impact of nature on human production activities and the impact of humans on nature. |
APPLICATION OF ACQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS | - Identify the location of a place or a spatial scope on the map; use a timeline to represent the development process of historical events. - Use charts, data, etc., to comment on certain historical events and geographical phenomena. - Know how to collect and use historical and geographical resources to discuss and present viewpoints on simple historical, geographical, and social issues. - Apply learned historical and geographical knowledge to analyze and comment at a basic level the impact of historical events, figures, and geographical phenomena on current life. - Propose ideas and carry out actions such as: conserving resources, protecting the environment, and safeguarding historical and cultural relics, etc. |

According to Section 3 of the General Education Program for Mathematics issued with Circular 32/2018/TT-BGDDT:
- The subject of History and Geography at the primary level develops students' competencies in history and geography with components: scientific cognition of history and geography; exploration of history and geography; application of acquired knowledge and skills; concurrently contributing to forming and developing general competencies: autonomy and self-learning, communication and cooperation, problem-solving, and creativity.
- The subject of History and Geography at the primary level helps students explore the natural and social world around them to nurture national pride, love of nature, homeland, and country; awareness of nature conservation, preservation, and development of Vietnamese cultural values; respect for cultural differences among countries and ethnicities, thereby contributing to forming and developing qualities of patriotism, kindness, diligence, honesty, and responsibility.
