Are preschool children entitled to a day off during the Mid-Autumn Festival in Vietnam?
Currently, there are no specific regulations concerning the provision of a day off for students or preschool children during the Mid-Autumn Festival.
Furthermore, based on Article 112 of the Labor Code 2019 regarding holidays:
Holidays
1. Employees are entitled to fully paid days off during the following holidays:
a) New Year's Day: 01 day (January 1 of the Gregorian calendar);
b) Lunar New Year: 05 days;
c) Victory Day: 01 day (April 30 of the Gregorian calendar);
d) International Labor Day: 01 day (May 1 of the Gregorian calendar);
e) National Day: 02 days (September 2 of the Gregorian calendar and 01 adjacent day before or after);
f) Hung Kings' Death Anniversary: 01 day (March 10 of the lunar calendar).
2. Foreign employees working in Vietnam, in addition to the holidays mentioned in Clause 1 of this Article, shall also be entitled to one traditional holiday and one national day of their respective countries.
3. Annually, based on actual conditions, the Prime Minister of Vietnam decides specifically on the holidays mentioned in points b and e of Clause 1 of this Article.
Teachers are entitled to fully paid days off during the following holidays:
- New Year's Day: 01 day (January 1 of the Gregorian calendar);
- Lunar New Year: 05 days;- Victory Day: 01 day (April 30 of the Gregorian calendar);
- International Labor Day: 01 day (May 1 of the Gregorian calendar);

Thus, the Mid-Autumn Festival does not fall under the holidays for which teachers are entitled to leave.
Since students typically have holidays according to teachers' schedules, and as stated in the regulations above, on Mid-Autumn Festival 2024, teachers do not get a day off.
Therefore, on this day, students in general and preschool children specifically will not have a day off from school during the Mid-Autumn Festival.
However, on this day, schools will almost always organize recreational activities for the children, allowing them to enjoy the day.
What are the responsibilities of preschool children as per regulations in Vietnam?
The responsibilities of preschool children are stipulated in Article 34 of the Ordinance issued with Circular 52/2020/TT-BGDDT. To be specific:
- Show respect to grandparents, parents, teachers, and adults; demonstrate solidarity, love, and help friends and younger siblings.
- Actively and positively participate in nurturing, caring, and educational activities suitable to the child's abilities and age.
- Wear tidy and age-appropriate clothing, convenient for activities at preschool.
- Maintain personal hygiene; participate in maintaining cleanliness of the school and class according to abilities, contributing to environmental protection.
- Adhere to the regulations of the preschool.
Therefore, on the specific day of the Mid-Autumn Festival, preschool children still have to attend school and thus maintain their duties. Additionally, when the school organizes recreational activities for them during the Mid-Autumn Festival, they must follow instructions and ensure safety while participating in these activities at school.
