Skills to be Achieved for Traditional Instrument Performance at the College Level

On December 28, 2018, the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs issued Circular 40/2018/TT-BLDTBXH regulating the minimum knowledge volume and competency requirements that learners must achieve upon graduation from intermediate and college levels for majors and professions in the fields of arts, fine arts, and languages.

Circular 40/2018/TT-BLDTBXH prescribes that traditional musical instrument performance at the college level is a field in which learners are educated to study and utilize one or two traditional musical instruments of the Vietnamese people to perform musical pieces, satisfying Level 5 requirements in the Vietnam National Qualifications Framework. Upon graduation, learners majoring in traditional musical instrument performance at the college level need to acquire the following skills:

- Proficient performance of one to two traditional musical instruments in forms such as solo, orchestra, ensemble, traditional music style, effectively interpreting the techniques, clearly expressing the nature and emotions of the pieces, and showcasing the characteristics of basic pieces from different regions on the performing instruments;- Proper and safe use of facilities and equipment such as: stage, props, costumes, etc., as prescribed;- Formation of professional plans such as: performance plans, job assignment plans, training and professional development plans, plans for purchasing equipment and props, plans for organizing conferences, seminars, or events, etc.;- Organization of training, performance activities, conferences, seminars, professional discussions, etc.;- Implementation of outlines, music scripts, content, and programs for professional activities;- Management, supervision, inspection, and evaluation of work results to ensure compliance with procedures and quality at working departments;- Analysis and evaluation of the musical activity results of departments at various times, identifying causes, limitations, and proposing solutions to improve the efficiency of musical activities;- Resolution of requirements and situations during performance service, teaching, and other musical activities;- Preservation of the national cultural identity, inheritance, and promotion of the essence of Vietnam's traditional music;- Determining audience trends and preferences to apply to professional activities; effectively participating in professional group activities;- Coordination and participation in events organized by associations, public, and social groups to gain experience, supplement knowledge, and gather materials for professional activities;- Integration of teamwork skills such as: organizing, cooperating, bonding, agreeing, listening, responsibility, assisting, etc., to perform assigned tasks well;- Application of basic information technology as prescribed; exploration, processing, and usage of information technology in professional work of the field;- Basic use of foreign languages, achieving level 2/6 in the Vietnam's foreign language proficiency framework; application of foreign languages in the professional work of the field.
