03 types of inland waterways in Vietnam according to Circular No. 15/2016/TT-BGTVT

On June 30, 2016, the Ministry of Transport of Vietnam issued Circular No. 15/2016/TT-BGTVT on inland waterway management.

According to Circular No. 15/2016/TT-BGTVT of the Ministry of Transport of Vietnam, inland waterways are classified into national, local and specialized inland waterways. To be specific:

- National inland waterways refers to those that connect to economic and culture centers, focal transport infrastructures serving the purpose of economic development or national defense and security; or cross-border transport.

- Local inland waterways refer to those within the administration of a province or centrally-affiliated city serving the purpose of socio-economic development.

- Specialized inland waterways refer to those connecting to ports, specialized inland wharves, national inland waterways or local inland waterways for the purpose of transport.
