03 Requirements for the Traditional Musical Instrument Performance Sector at Intermediate Level

Recently, the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs issued Circular 40/2018/TT-BLDTBXH stipulating the minimum amount of knowledge and competency requirements that learners must achieve after graduating from intermediate and college levels for majors and trades in the fields of arts, fine arts, and languages.

Circular 40/2018/TT-BLDTBXH stipulates that intermediate level traditional musical instrument performance is a major in which students learn, research, and use one or two traditional Vietnamese musical instruments to perform musical works, meeting level 4 requirements in the Vietnamese National Qualification Framework. Upon graduating from the intermediate level in traditional musical instrument performance, students need to meet the following 03 requirements:

1. Minimum knowledge volume

- Identify general foundational knowledge in music; foundational knowledge in traditional theater music, dance, and drama; traditional music knowledge; pentatonic thinking;- Distinguish the features of traditional Vietnamese musical instruments, list types of instruments, performance equipment, and main props used by professional music and dance theaters, traditional art theaters, cultural and arts training institutions, or grassroots cultural information units, and understand their positions and uses;- Determine the position, role, and characteristics of traditional musical instrument performance activities, their impact on artistic performance, art training, contributing to the development and preservation of traditional art, promoting sustainable economic, cultural, and social development;- Describe basic operational procedures of the unit's artistic activities;- Describe the organizational structure, functions, and duties of the departments in professional music and dance theaters, traditional art theaters, cultural and arts training institutions, and grassroots cultural information units...;- Present principles to ensure safety, work progress, work quality, explain reasons for complying with unit regulations to ensure safe and effective operations, and preventive measures;- Present basic knowledge of politics, culture, society, law, national defense, security, and physical education as prescribed.

2. Skill requirements

- Perform one or two traditional musical instruments solo, in orchestral ensemble, small group ensemble, perform traditional music skills well, clearly express the nature and emotions of the pieces, present the characteristic elements of the representative basic pieces of different regions using performance instruments;- Use infrastructure and equipment such as: stage, props, costumes... correctly and safely according to regulations;- Organize professional activities such as: training, performances, conferences, seminars, workshops...;- Resolve requirements and situations in the process of serving performances and other musical activities;- Promote, advertise, disseminate the major to develop, preserve, and promote ethnic cultural values, contributing to building and developing an advanced Vietnamese culture imbued with national identity;- Determine audience preferences and trends to apply to professional activities; effectively participate in professional group activities;- Coordinate and participate in events organized by organizations, public, and social groups to gain experience, supplement knowledge and resources for professional activities;- Integrate teamwork skills such as: organization, cooperation, consensus, listening, responsibility, assistance to perform assigned tasks well;- Use basic information technology as prescribed; apply IT in some specialized tasks of the major;- Use basic foreign language, reaching level 1/6 in the Vietnamese Foreign Language Competency Framework; apply foreign languages in some professional tasks of the major.

3. Level of autonomy and responsibility

- Work independently, effectively participate in team working, understand each other, have a spirit of responsibility, mutual support, and good coordination with team members;- Communicate politely, friendly with the audience and colleagues;- Have a sense of learning, training, and improving professional knowledge;- Resolve some complex tasks and issues in changing work conditions;- Have a sense of responsibility in using and maintaining assigned instruments and common assets of the organs and units;- Always willing to guide, help, supervise, respect, cooperate, and inspire colleagues to complete tasks well; take responsibility for one's work results and partially for the group before the leadership of the organs, organizations, and units;- Have responsibility, ethics, professional behavior, service attitude. Diligent, creative in work, adhere to work discipline, and respect the regulations of the organs and units.
