03 Intermediate Level Requirements for Western Musical Instrument Performance (Illustrative Image)
To be specific, Circular 40/2018/TT-BLDTBXH regulates that Western musical instrument performance at the intermediate level is a field where learners study, research, and use string instruments such as Violin, Viola, Cello, Double Bass; woodwind instruments such as Flute, Oboe, Clarinet...; brass instruments such as Trumpet, Trombone, Horn...; percussion instruments and other auxiliary instruments such as Classical Guitar, Accordion...; specialties in electronic keyboards, Acoustic Guitar, Electric Guitar, Bass, Saxophone, Jazz Drums...; meeting the requirements of level 4 in the Vietnamese national qualifications framework. Upon graduating from the intermediate level in Western musical instrument performance, learners must meet the following requirements:
Knowledge Volume:
- Describe basic knowledge about the history of Vietnamese and world music, foundational musical knowledge such as solfeggio, transcription, harmony...;- Analyze basic knowledge about Western musical instrument performance techniques, understand and distinguish different instrumental techniques;- Identify basic knowledge and techniques to practice and build works for Western musical instrument performance that meet set requirements;- Describe basic techniques of the field, different techniques of instrumental articulation..., and understand methods for practicing and performing these techniques;- Describe art forms related to the field such as stage performance art, makeup art, costume art...;- List specialized audio equipment, primary musical instruments used in performance, and explain their functions;- Know the methods to ensure the safety of people, instruments, and equipment during performances;- Present basic knowledge in politics, culture, society, law, national defense and security, and physical education as prescribed.
Skill Requirements:
- Correctly and adequately select traditional musical instruments when practicing and performing;- Perform fundamental performance techniques of the field;- Perform basic techniques (Scales, Etudes…), ensemble, simple orchestral and band practices…;- Exhibit basic techniques and skills of performing musical works with various genres in solo instrumental, orchestral, band, group performances...;- Practice sight-reading proficiently; read and transpose different musical clefs; accompany, arrange, rehearse, and conduct ensembles or bands...;- Perform Western music works with different styles;- Use audio equipment, music software, and exploit communication technology applications, ensuring safety for performers and equipment;- Flexibly and appropriately apply soft skills such as presentation, negotiation, communication, problem-solving, conflict resolution, teamwork... into the work process effectively;- Use basic information technology as prescribed; apply IT in specialized tasks of the field;- Use basic foreign language skills, reaching level 1/6 in the Vietnamese foreign language proficiency framework; apply foreign language skills in some specialized tasks of the field.
Level of Autonomy and Responsibility:
- Have a self-learning attitude, enhance professional skills, and be innovative in work;- Maintain a proper professional attitude and ethics, have a sense of discipline, and apply scientific working methods;- Collaborate with group members in practicing and performing orchestral ensemble; be responsible for personal work outcomes to the orchestra conductor, group leader;- Proactively evaluate job quality and individual performance and part of the group members' work;- Exhibit an industrial working manner and high responsibility in work.
