Vietnam: What is a student's card?
A student's card is a type of card issued to a student when they enroll at a university. This card serves to identify who the student is, their field of study, and more importantly, it proves that they are a student of the university for external activities such as buying bus tickets, and movie tickets, etc. At the beginning of the year, during the registration period, the student will use the card to prove they have registered at the university and to establish their identity.
A student's card typically includes the following information:
[1] Name of the university (both Vietnamese and English names may be included).
[2] University logo (usually placed on the left or right corner of the card, or could be embedded on the card to avoid forgery).
[3] The phrase "student's card" (can be written in both Vietnamese and English).
[4] Student's name.
[5] Student's date of birth.
[6] The field of study of the student.
[7] Student ID number along with a barcode (this number is used for various barcode scanning systems in the university. This ID is also required during examinations).
[8] Course duration (usually, this is for the entire period the student studies at the university. For example, a law major typically lasts 4 years. Beyond this period, the student needs to request a new card if they are still studying at the university).
The back of the card may include summarized regulations for using the card within university activities. Additional details will be specified by the university in the University Regulations.

What is the validity of a student's card in Vietnam?
Currently, issues regarding student's cards are not governed by law but are specified in the university's documents.
Accordingly, based on the Regulations on Issuing and Using student's cards issued by the University of Economics and Business Administration of Thai Nguyen University accompanying Decision 120/QD-DHKT&QTKD-CTSV in 2014 (Download), it is specified as follows:
"The student's card is valid during the study period at the University. Once the period stated on the card expires, the student's card is no longer valid. The person issued a student's card must conform to the usage regulations."
Based on the above regulation, it can be seen that the card is valid during the study period at the University. Once the period stated on the card expires, the card is no longer valid.
It can be understood that the student's card is issued based on the years of study for each field of study. For example, the law major is 4 years, and the duration will be clearly stated on the card.
Thus, the student's card expires when the period stated on the card ends.
