PROGRAM OBJECTIVES

2.3. High School Education Goals

Upon completing the English curricula at the upper secondary education level, students can:

- Use English as a tool for communication through four skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing to meet basic and practical communication needs on familiar topics related to school, recreational activities, jobs, ...

- Continue to form and develop basic knowledge about English, including phonetics, vocabulary, grammar; gain a deeper understanding of the countries, people, the culture of English-speaking countries and other countries around the world through English, understand and respect cultural diversity, while initially reflecting on the value of Vietnamese culture in English.

- Use English to enhance the quality of learning other subjects in the general education program.

- Use English to pursue higher learning objectives or be able to work immediately after finishing high school.

- Apply different learning methods to manage study time, apply information technology in learning and self-study, consolidate self-study methods, self-evaluate, and take responsibility for learning outcomes, develop lifelong learning habits.

According to the above regulation, learning about the traditional Christmas dishes is one of the objectives of English curricula in Vietnam at the upper secondary education level.

Must the General education program for English in Vietnam be flexible?

Under Section 2 of the General education program for English issued with Circular 32/2018/TT-BGDDT:

PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT PERSPECTIVES

1. The General education program for English adheres to the regulations stated in the comprehensive general education program of the Ministry of Education and Training, including general orientations on perspective, objectives, achievement requirements, educational planning, and orientations on educational content, educational methods, assessment of learning outcomes, and conditions for implementing the program.

2. The General education program for English is developed from the perspective that communication skills are the goals of the teaching process; language knowledge is a means to form and develop communication skills through listening, speaking, reading, writing. At the primary level (grades 3-5), priority should be given to developing listening and speaking skills. At the lower secondary level, listening and speaking skills continue to be developed, and through the integrated practice of skills, progress towards evenly developing all four skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing at the high school level.

6. The General education program for English ensures flexibility, adaptability, and openness to meet the needs and suit the diverse conditions of English teaching in different localities.

Thus, according to the above regulation, the General education program for English must ensure flexibility.
