When do students in Vietnam practice writing an essay on a recount of a trip or a social activity in Vietnam?
Based on Section 4 of the General Education Curriculum for the subject of Literature, issued together with Circular 32/2018/TT-BGDDT, the requirement for writing section in the Literature program for grade 8 is as follows:

Know how to write documents ensuring the steps: preparation before writing (identifying the topic, purpose, audience, form, collecting information, materials); brainstorming and outlining; writing the essay; reviewing and editing, gaining experience.
Writing practice
- Write an essay recounting a trip or a social activity that left a deep impression and emotions on oneself, using descriptive or emotive elements or both.
- Initially, know how to write a free verse poem (six or seven syllables). Write a paragraph expressing feelings about a free verse poem.
- Write a discursive essay on a life issue, clearly presenting the issue and the writer's opinion (agreement or disagreement); providing convincing arguments and evidence.
- Write an analysis of a literary work: stating the theme; citing and analyzing a few distinctive artistic features used in the work.
- Write an explanatory document explaining a natural phenomenon or introducing a book; providing important information; presenting clearly and persuasively.
- Write a petition about a life issue.
Thus, writing an essay recounting a trip or a social activity is a requirement in the grade 8 Literature curriculum.
Are grade 8 students in Vietnam allowed to use equipment for learning?
Based on Article 35 of the Regulations for Secondary, High Schools, and Schools with Multiple Levels promulgated by the Ministry of Education and Training, accompanying Circular 32/2020/TT-BGDDT, grade 8 students have several rights as follows:
(1) Have equal rights to comprehensive education, ensured conditions in terms of time, facilities, hygiene, and safety to study in class and self-study at home, provided with information about their study and training, have the right to use equipment and facilities to serve academic, cultural, and sports activities as regulated by the school.
(2) Be respected and protected, treated equally and democratically, have the right to appeal to the school and educational management levels about decisions concerning themselves; have the right to transfer schools for justifiable reasons according to current regulations; study ahead of age, skipping classes, studying at an older age than regulated according to Article 33 of the Regulations for lower secondary schools, upper secondary schools, and schools with multiple levels issued by the Ministry of Education and Training, accompanying Circular 32/2020/TT-BGDDT.
(3) Participate in activities to develop talents in academic, sports, or artistic subjects organized by the school if meeting the necessary conditions.
(4) Receive scholarships or other allowances according to regulations for students entitled to social policies, students with life difficulties, and students with special abilities.
(5) Transfer schools if eligible according to regulations; the transfer procedure is carried out following the procedures stipulated by the Minister of Education and Training.
(6) Enjoy other rights as prescribed by law.
One of the rights of grade 8 students is to study ahead of age, skip classes, and study at an older age than regulated according to Article 33 of the Regulations for lower secondary schools, upper secondary schools, and schools with multiple levels issued by the Ministry of Education and Training, accompanying Circular 32/2020/TT-BGDDT.
Thus, in view of these rights, it is evident that grade 8 students are fully entitled to use equipment for learning.
