- Mandatory subjects and educational activities: Vietnamese language; Mathematics; Morality; Foreign Language 1 (in grades 3, 4, 5); Nature and Society (in grades 1, 2, 3); History and Geography (in grades 4, 5); Science (in grades 4, 5); Informatics and Technology (in grades 3, 4, 5); Physical Education; Arts (Music, Fine Arts); Experiential Activities.
- Elective subjects: Ethnic Minority Language, Foreign Language 1 (in grades 1, 2).

Under Section V of the General Educational Program for Language issued attached to Circular 32/2018/TT-BGDDT, the learning outcomes required for 4th-grade students after learning to write paragraphs in Vietnam are as follows:
(1) Writing Process
- Know how to write following steps: determine the writing content (what to write about); observe and gather writing materials; form the main ideas for the paragraph and essay; write the paragraph and essay; edit (composition, word choice, sentence structure, spelling).
- Be able to write a paragraph, or essay that expresses the theme and main idea; suitable to the requirements for the type and form of text; includes an introduction, development, and conclusion; sentences and paragraphs are coherently linked.
(2) Writing Practice
- Be able to write an essay narrating an event witnessed (seen, observed) or participated in, and share thoughts and feelings about that event.
- Be able to write an essay retelling a story read or heard, or write an imaginative paragraph based on a story read or heard.
- Be able to write an essay describing an animal, or plant; using personification and words that evoke the outstanding characteristics of the object described.
- Be able to write a paragraph expressing personal feelings and emotions about a literary character or a close, familiar person.
- Be able to write a short paragraph explaining why you like a story you have read or heard.
- Be able to write a short text guiding the steps to perform a task or use a product in 2 - 3 steps.
- Be able to write a group discussion report, form letters, and personal letters to family and friends.
