On August 1, 2024, the Ministry of Education and Training of Vietnam issued Decision 2045/QD-BGDĐT regarding the schedule of the 2024-2025 School year for preschool education, general education, and continuing education.

1. Schedule of the 2024-2025 School year in Vietnam

The schedule of the 2024-2025 School year in Vietnam for preschool education, general education, and continuing education to be applied nationwide is issued as follows:

- Schools open no earlier than 1 week before the commencement ceremony. Specifically, for grade 1, schools open no earlier than 2 weeks before the commencement ceremony.

- The commencement ceremony will be held on September 5, 2024.

- The first semester will end before January 18, 2025, and the academic year will conclude before May 31, 2025.

- The evaluation to recognize the completion of the primary education program and the evaluation for the graduation of secondary school must be completed before June 30, 2025.

- The admission process for the entry-level classes must be completed before July 31, 2025.

- The high school graduation examination for 2025 is expected to take place on June 26 and June 27, 2025.

- Other national-level examinations will be organized according to the regulations and guidelines of the Ministry of Education and Training.

2. Principles for Developing the schedule of the school year in Localities

- The schedule of the school year in Vietnam of localities must ensure a total of 35 actual teaching weeks (18 weeks for the first semester, 17 weeks for the second semester).

- The schedule of the school year in Vietnam must be suitable with the characteristics and actual conditions of the locality.

- Holidays and Tet (Lunar New year) breaks are implemented according to the provisions of the Labor Code and the annual guidance documents.

- The annual leave time for teachers is to be during the summer vacation or may be interspersed at other times of the year to suit specific characteristics and the local schedule of the school year in Vietnam.

- The schedule of the school year in Vietnam must ensure synchronization for all educational levels within a residential area, especially in general schools with multiple educational levels.

3. Responsibility for Implementing the schedule of the 2024-2025 School year in Vietnam

- The Chairman of the Provincial or Municipal People's Committee under central authority decides:

+ The schedule of the school year in Vietnam for preschool education, general education, and continuing education suitable to local realities.

+ An early school opening and an extended school year not exceeding 15 days compared to the regulations in Article 1 of this Decision to ensure the implementation and completion of preschool education, general education, and continuing education programs in cases of natural disasters or epidemics; for special arising cases, report to the Ministry of Education and Training before implementation.

- The Director of the Department of Education and Training:

+ Decides to let students take a leave in case of extremely harsh weather or natural disasters and arranges make-up classes; ensures the leave time for teachers during the school year.

+ Reports to the Ministry of Education and Training on:

++  The  preparation  situation  for  the  school  year  and  the  organization  of  the  commencement  ceremony  for  the  school  year  2024-2025  before  September  10,  2024;

++  The  summary  of  the  implementation  of  duties,  key  solutions  for  the  school  year  2024-2025,  and  the  results  of  implementing  the  competition  criteria,  proposing  commendation  before  June  25,  2025.

The Office Chief, the Heads of units under the Ministry of Education and Training, the Chairmen of the People's Committees of provinces and centrally-run cities, and the Directors of the Departments of Education and Training are responsible for implementing Decision 2045/QD-BGDDT.
