What are the perspectives on constructing the Grade 10 Chemistry teaching program in Vietnam?
According to Section 2 of the General Education Chemistry Program issued with Circular 32/2018/TT-BGDDT, the perspectives on constructing the Chemistry teaching program for all grades (including Grade 10) are as follows:
The subject's program complies fully with the regulations specified in the General Program, while also considering the characteristics of the subject, emphasizing the following perspectives:
(1) Ensuring Inheritance and Development
- The Chemistry program inherits and promotes the advantages of the current program, drawing on the experience of constructing subject programs from countries with advanced education systems globally and in the region; at the same time, it approaches educational science achievements, and chemistry suitable for the cognitive level and psychology of students, considering Vietnam's economic and social conditions.
- The Chemistry program inherits and develops the educational content of the Natural Science subject at the lower secondary level using a combination of concentric and linear structures to expand and deepen students’ knowledge and skills.
At the lower secondary level, through the Natural Science subject, students are introduced to basic chemistry knowledge at a qualitative, descriptive level.
At the upper secondary level, the Chemistry subject focuses on equipping students with general foundation chemistry knowledge about the structure, properties, and applications of elements and compounds so that students can explain the essence of chemical transformation processes at a necessary level.
(2) Ensuring Practicality
The Chemistry program emphasizes practicality; avoids leaning towards calculations; focuses on equipping conceptual tools and methods of using tools, especially helping students develop practical experimental skills and the ability to apply chemical knowledge to understand and solve certain practical problems, meeting the demands of everyday life.
(3) Realizing Career Orientation Requirements
The Chemistry program concretizes career-oriented educational objectives. Based on identifying career fields and technological processes that require in-depth chemical knowledge, the program selects core educational content and study topics, helping students delve deeper into chemical knowledge with many practical applications, aiding career orientation.
(4) Promoting Student Activeness
The teaching methods of the Chemistry subject contribute to fostering activeness, initiative, and creativity in students, aiming to develop chemistry competencies and contribute to forming and developing essential qualities and common competencies as specified in the General Program.
What are methods for forming and developing essential qualities in the grade 10 Chemistry program in Vietnam?
Based on subsection 2 of Section 6 of the General Education Chemistry Program issued with Circular 32/2018/TT-BGDDT, the methods for forming and developing essential qualities in the grade 10 Chemistry program are as follows:
Through organizing learning activities, teachers help students form and develop a scientific worldview, practice honesty, love of labor, and responsibility;
By engaging in experimental and practical activities, especially visits and hands-on practice in laboratories, production facilities, and various locations, to enhance students' awareness of the rational use and protection of natural resources, reinforcing the responsibility of workers and safety principles in production, particularly in fields related to chemistry.
Teachers utilize diverse learning methods to nurture students' interest and confidence in studying, exploring science, respect for scientific achievements, and the ability to apply scientific knowledge in life.
