What are the characteristics of grade 5 Vietnamese?
Based on Section I of the Appendix on the Literature Education Curriculum issued with Circular 32/2018/TT-BGDDT, the characteristics of Grade 5 Literature are as follows:
Literature is a subject under the domain of Language and Literature Education, taught from Grade 1 to Grade 12. At the primary level, this subject is named Vietnamese; at the lower and upper secondary levels, it is called Literature.
Literature has an instrumental and aesthetic-humanistic nature. It provides students with communication tools, serves as a foundation for learning all other subjects and educational activities in school, and is an important tool for educating students about the noble values of culture, literature, and national language. It nurtures healthy emotions, humanistic feelings, and a compassionate, altruistic lifestyle in students.
By engaging with the dynamic linguistic writings and vivid artistic images within literary works, through reading, writing, speaking, and listening activities, the subject of Literature plays a significant role in helping students build and develop admirable qualities and core competencies necessary for effective living and working, and for lifelong learning.
The content of the Literature subject is comprehensive, encompassing cultural, ethical, and philosophical knowledge relating to many subjects and educational activities such as History, Geography, Arts, Civic Education, Foreign Languages, Natural and Social Sciences, Experiential Activities, Career Orientation,... The subject of Literature is also closely tied to real life; it helps students form a deeper connection to everyday life and develops skills to solve practical problems.
The core content of the subject includes fundamental, essential knowledge, and skills in Vietnamese and literature, meeting the achievement criteria for student qualities and competencies at each educational level. It is divided into two phases: a basic educational phase and a career-oriented educational phase.
Basic educational phase: The program is designed around the main strands corresponding to the skills of reading, writing, speaking, and listening. Vietnamese language and literature knowledge is integrated within the teaching and learning processes of these skills. Texts are selected and arranged to match the reception ability of students at each educational level.
The objective of this phase is to enable students to use Vietnamese fluently to communicate effectively in life and to excel in learning other subjects and educational activities; to develop literary competence, an indication of aesthetic ability; and to cultivate thoughts and emotions for students to develop their soul and character.
Career-oriented educational phase: The program consolidates and advances the results of the basic educational phase, enhances students' linguistic and literary abilities, particularly in literary text reception; strengthens skills in creating more complex argumentative and informational texts in content and writing techniques; provides substantial knowledge of literary history and theory beneficial for reading and writing about literature; and continues to nurture thoughts, feelings, soul, and character to shape students into responsible citizens.
Additionally, each year, students with a social science and humanities orientation may choose to study specialized modules.
These modules are intended to reinforce knowledge about literature and language, apply knowledge in practice, meeting students' interests, needs, and career orientations.
