Under Part V of the General Education Program for Literature issued together with Circular 32/2018/TT-BGDDT, the literary knowledge in the 12th-grade education program of Vietnam includes:
- The cognitive, educational, and aesthetic functions of literature
- The alignment between theme, ideology, and dominant inspiration
- Some expressions of artistic style in folk literature, medieval literature, modern literature, realistic and romantic trends; the author's artistic style
- Some elements of legendary tales, novels (modern and postmodern), modern lyrical poetry, comedy, non-fiction
+ Legendary tales: theme, characters, language, artistic methods; assessing the role of magical elements in legendary tales, relating to their role in traditional folk tales
+ Novels (modern and postmodern): language, psychological developments, character actions
+ Modern lyrical poetry: language, imagery, symbols, symbolic elements, surrealism
+ Comedy: language, characters, situations, satirical methods
+ Reports, diaries, or memoirs: non-fiction nature, description, narration; the combination of realistic details and events with the writer's experiences, attitudes, and evaluations
- The psychological development of characters and methods of expressing character psychology by the author
- The relationship between the narrator, and perspective in expressing the text's theme
- Basic understanding of Ho Chi Minh to aid in understanding some of his representative works

What are the requirements for programmes of general education in Vietnam?
According to Clause 1, Article 31 of the Education Law 2019, the requirements for programmes of general education in Vietnam are specified as follows:
- Reflect the objectives of general education;
- Concretize the requirements on the outcomes of students’ quality and capacity after each educational level and on the educational contents compulsory to all students throughout the country;
- Concretize the requirements on the methods and forms of organizing educational activities and on the evaluation of educational outcomes for subjects of each class and educational level of general education.
