Who are the National Assembly deputies?
Based on Article 21 of the Law on Organization of the National Assembly 2014 which stipulates the position and role of a National Assembly deputy as follows:
Position and role of a National Assembly deputy
1. A National Assembly deputy is a representative of the will and aspirations of the People in the electoral unit that elected him/her and of the People nationwide; represents the People in exercising state power in the National Assembly.
2. A National Assembly deputy is accountable to the voters and the National Assembly for the performance of his/her duties and powers as a deputy.
3. A National Assembly deputy is equal in discussions and decisions on matters within the duties and powers of the National Assembly.
Thus, a National Assembly deputy is a representative of the will and aspirations of the People in the electoral unit that elected him/her and of the People nationwide; represents the People in exercising state power in the National Assembly.
Additionally, a National Assembly deputy is accountable to the voters and the National Assembly for the performance of his/her duties and powers as a deputy.

What are the criteria to become a National Assembly deputy?
Based on Article 22 of the Law on Organization of the National Assembly 2014 (amended and supplemented by Clause 1, Article 1 of the Amended Law on Organization of the National Assembly 2020) which stipulates as follows:
Criteria of a National Assembly deputy
1. Loyal to the Fatherland, People, and Constitution, committed to the process of renovation for the goal of a wealthy people, a strong country, democracy, fairness, and civilization.
1a. Possesses a single nationality which is the Vietnamese nationality
2. Possesses good morality, diligence, thriftiness, integrity, righteousness, impartiality, and exemplary compliance with the law; has the courage to resolutely fight against corruption, wastefulness, all forms of bureaucracy, authoritarianism, and other violations of the law.
3. Possesses appropriate cultural and professional qualifications, adequate capacity, health, working experience, and prestige to perform the duties of a National Assembly deputy.
4. Closely connect with the People, listen to the People’s opinions, and be trusted by the People.
5. Has the conditions to participate in the activities of the National Assembly.

What is the maximum number of National Assembly deputies as stipulated by current regulations?
Based on Article 23 of the Law on Organization of the National Assembly 2014 (amended by Clause 2, Article 1 of the Amended Law on Organization of the National Assembly 2020) which stipulates as follows:
Number of National Assembly deputies
1. The total number of National Assembly deputies shall not exceed five hundred, including full-time deputies and part-time deputies.
2. The number of full-time National Assembly deputies shall be at least forty percent of the total number of National Assembly deputies.
Thus, the total number of National Assembly deputies shall not exceed five hundred, including full-time deputies and part-time deputies.
The number of full-time National Assembly deputies shall be at least forty percent of the total number of National Assembly deputies.
How is the working time of a National Assembly deputy regulated?
Based on Article 24 of the Law on Organization of the National Assembly 2014 which stipulates as follows:
Working time of a National Assembly deputy
1. A full-time National Assembly deputy shall devote all his/her working time to perform the duties and powers of a deputy at the agencies of the National Assembly or at the National Assembly Deputies Delegations in localities.
2. A part-time National Assembly deputy shall devote at least one-third of his/her working time in a year to perform the duties and powers of a National Assembly deputy. The head of the agency, organization, or unit where the National Assembly deputy works shall be responsible for arranging time and work, and creating necessary conditions for the deputy to perform his/her duties and powers.
A full-time National Assembly deputy shall devote all his/her working time to performing the duties and powers of a deputy at the agencies of the National Assembly or at the National Assembly Deputies Delegations in localities.
A part-time National Assembly deputy shall devote at least one-third of his/her working time in a year to performing the duties and powers of a National Assembly deputy.
