According to Notice 5015/TB-LDTBXH of 2023 from the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs, the holidays for National Day 2024 for officials and public employees in Vietnam are defined as follows:
The National Day holiday in 2024 lasts 4 days, including 2 days for the National Day holiday and 2 weekly days off.
The Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs recommends that agencies and units observe the National Day holiday in 2024 while ensuring proper staffing to resolve continuous work, ensuring good service to organizations and the public.
For agencies and units that do not observe fixed days off on Saturdays and Sundays, they will arrange the National Day holiday schedule for 2024 based on their specific programs and plans.
For employees who are not part of administrative or non-profit organizations, political organizations, or socio-political organizations, the employer can decide as follows for the National Day holiday in 2024:
- National Day holiday: Monday, September 2, 2024, and select one of the two days: Sunday, September 1, 2024, or Tuesday, September 3, 2024.
- Notify employees of the National Day holiday plan at least 30 days in advance.
- If the weekly day off coincides with a public holiday or Tet holiday as prescribed in Clause 1, Article 112 of the Labor Code 2019, the employee is entitled to compensatory time off on the following working day, according to Clause 3, Article 111 of the Labor Code 2019.
As per the above regulations, employees with two weekly days off on Saturday and Sunday will have a 4-day break during the National Day holiday from September 2, 2024.
The National Day holiday will begin from Saturday, August 31, 2024, to the end of Tuesday, September 3, 2024.

How is the salary of employees working on National Day holiday on September 2, 2024 calculated?
According to Article 98 of the Labor Code 2019, the salary for overtime work and night work is stipulated as follows:
Salary for overtime work and night work:
1. Employees who work overtime are paid according to their salary rate or the actual salary for the job they are doing as follows:
a) On normal days, at least 150%;
b) On weekly days off, at least 200%;
c) On public holidays, Tet holidays, paid leave days, at least 300% not including the daily salary for public holidays, Tet holidays, and paid leave days for employees receiving daily Salarys.
2. Employees who work at night are paid an additional amount of at least 30% of the salary calculated according to the salary rate or actual salary for the normal working days.
3. Employees who work overtime at night are paid, in addition to the Salarys stipulated in Clauses 1 and 2 of this Article, an additional 20% of the salary calculated according to the salary rate or actual work done during the daytime of normal working days, weekly days off, or public holidays.
4. The Government of Vietnam shall specify this Article.
If employees work on public holidays or Tet holidays, they are entitled to a salary of at least 300% not including the daily salary for public holidays or Tet holidays for employees receiving daily Salarys.
Additionally, if employees work at night, they are paid an additional amount of at least 30% of the salary for the normal working days and 20% of the salary for public holidays or Tet holidays.
Thus, working on public holidays and Tet holidays, the salary is computed as follows:
- Working during the daytime: Receive at least 400% of the salary.
- Working at night: Receive at least 490% of the salary.
What are the details of the holiday schedule for employees in Vietnam in 2024?
Employees have the following holidays and Tet breaks in 2024:
(1) New Year Holiday 2024 (point a, Clause 1, Article 112 of the Labor Code 2019)
employees are entitled to time off with full pay on New Year's Day (January 1).
(2) Lunar New Year Holiday 2024 (point b, Clause 1, Article 112 of the Labor Code 2019)
employees are entitled to time off with full pay for 5 days during the Lunar New Year.
On November 3, 2023, the Office of the Government of Vietnam issued Official Dispatch 8662/VPCP-KGVX of 2023 regarding the Lunar New Year and National Day holidays for 2024.
The 2024 Lunar New Year holiday schedule for officials and public employees and employees is as follows:
- For officials and public employees, the holiday is from Thursday, February 8, 2024, to the end of Wednesday, February 14, 2024 (from the 29th of Tet in the year of the Cat to the end of the 5th day of the New Year of the Dragon). (3) Victory Day and International Labor Day Holidays 2024 (points c, d, Clause 1, Article 112 of the Labor Code 2019)
Employees are entitled to time off with full pay for:
- Victory Day: 1 day (April 30).
- International Labor Day: 1 day (May 1).
April 30, 2024, falls on a Tuesday, and May 1, 2024, falls on a Wednesday.
Thus, the holidays for Victory Day and International Labor Day in 2024 will be 2 consecutive days.
(4) National Day Holiday 2024 (point dd, Clause 1, Article 112 of the Labor Code 2019)
employees are entitled to time off with full pay for National Day: 2 days (September 2 and one adjacent day).

employees are entitled to time off with full pay for the Hung Kings' Commemoration Day: 1 day (March 10 of the lunar calendar).
March 10 of the lunar calendar in 2024 falls on a Thursday.
Thus, during the Hung Kings' Commemoration Day in 2024, officials and public employees, and employees will have 1 day off.
*Note: If a weekly day off coincides with a public holiday or Tet holiday as prescribed in Clause 1, Article 112 of the Labor Code 2019, employees are entitled to compensatory time off on the following working day.
For foreign employees in Vietnam, in addition to the above holidays, they are entitled to one day off for their traditional cultural New Year and one day off for their National Day.
