When will successful candidates receive admission notifications in the 2023 university entrance examination?
How Many Methods of University Admission Are There?
Based on Clause 1, Article 6 of the University Admissions Regulations and Pre-school Education College Admissions issued together with Circular 08/2022/TT-BGDĐT, the provisions are as follows:
Admission Methods
1. The training institution decides on one or several admission methods (examination, evaluation, or a combination of examination and evaluation), applicable either for the entire training institution or specified for certain programs, fields, domains, and training formats. A program or field of study may simultaneously use multiple admission methods.
2. Each admission method must clearly define the evaluation and ranking criteria and the method for combining these criteria to classify, rank, and determine the admission conditions for candidates according to the requirements of the program or field of study. These criteria must be based on the essential knowledge and core competencies that candidates need to possess to undertake the program or field of study.
3. For admission methods based on academic results or examination results in individual subjects (including the cumulative grades of high school subjects, graduation exam scores, and other assessment results):
a) The subject combination used for evaluation must include at least 3 subjects suitable for the characteristics and requirements of the training program (coefficients can be assigned to each subject), including mathematics or literature;
b) A program or field of study may simultaneously use several subject combinations, with specified score differences between combinations when determining admission conditions;
c) No more than 4 subject combinations may be used for one field or program of study (except when the subject combinations only differ in the foreign language subject).
4. For a field or program with separate quotas for individual admission methods or subject combinations:
a) The quota allocation among methods and subject combinations must be reasonable; it should not create unfairness for candidates selecting different methods or combinations;
b) Any changes or additions to methods or subject combinations must be reasonable and timely; it should not reduce the quota allocation of a method or combination used in the previous year by more than 30% (within the structure of the quota for the field or program) unless the changes or additions were announced at least one year before the registration opening.
5. Training institutions are responsible for explaining the scientific and practical basis for determining the admission methods, evaluation methods, subject combinations, and quota allocation for admissions; this includes analyzing, evaluating, and benchmarking the academic performance of admitted students annually.
Currently, universities can independently choose their admission methods.
Some current admission methods include:
- Evaluation based on High School Graduation Exam results.- High school transcripts evaluation.- Evaluation based on results of separate entrance exams.- Direct, prioritized admissions.- Evaluation of candidates with international certificates.
