When is Vietnam National Day in 2023?
Vietnam National Day is an official holiday of Vietnam, taking place on September 2nd every year, commemorating the day President Ho Chi Minh read the Declaration of Independence at Ba Dinh Square, Hanoi, giving birth to the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, now the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.
In 2023, National Day, September 2, falls on a Saturday, coinciding with the weekly rest day of officals, public employees and employees who do not work on Saturday.

Pursuant to Article 112 of the 2019 Labor Code, holidays and Tet holidays are as follows:
Public holidays
1. Employees shall be entitled to fully paid days off on the following public holidays:
a) Gregorian Calendar New Year Holiday: 01 day (the 1st of January of the Gregorian calendar);
b) Lunar New Year Holidays: 05 days;
c) Victory Day: 01 day (the 30th of April of the Gregorian calendar);
d) International Labor Day: 01 day (the 1st of May of the Gregorian calendar);
dd) National Day: 02 days (the 2nd of September of the Gregorian calendar and the previous or next day);
e) Hung Kings Commemoration Day: 01 day (the 10th of the third month of the Lunar calendar).
2. Foreign employees in Vietnam are entitled to 01 traditional public holiday and 01 National Day of their country, in addition to the public holidays stipulated in Clause 1 of this Article.
3. The Prime Minister shall decide the specific public holidays mentioned in Point b and Point dd Clause 1 of this Article on an annual basis.
According to the above regulations, in 2023, employees will be entitled to public holidays including:
- Gregorian Calendar New Year Holiday: 01 day (the 1st of January of the Gregorian calendar);
- Lunar New Year Holidays: 05 days;
- Victory Day: 01 day (the 30th of April of the Gregorian calendar);
- International Labor Day: 01 day (the 1st of May of the Gregorian calendar);
- National Day: 02 days (the 2nd of September of the Gregorian calendar and the previous or next day);
- Hung Kings Commemoration Day: 01 day (the 10th of the third month of the Lunar calendar).
Accordingly, employees are now entitled to holidays: Hung Kings Commemoration Day, Victory Day, International Labor Day.
Up to now, employees have had 3/4 days off
Thus, National Day will be the last holiday in 2023 for employees
What is the Vietnam National Day holiday schedule on September 2, 2023 of employees?
According to Article 112 of the 2019 Labor Code, holidays and Tet holidays are as follows:

Pursuant to the provisions of Article 111 of the 2019 Labor Code as follows:
Weekly breaks
1. Each week an employee is entitled to a break of at least 24 consecutive hours. Where it is impossible for the employee to have a weekly day off due to the work cycle, the employer has the responsibility to ensure that on average the employee has at least 04 days off per month.
2. The employer has the right to determine and schedule the weekly breaks either on Sunday or for another fixed day in a week, which must be recorded in the internal labor regulations.
3. In case a public holiday falls on an employee’s weekly break coincide with a public holiday as prescribed in Clause 1 Article 112 of this Labor Code, he/she will have compensatory time-off on the next working days.
According to the above regulations, if the weekly rest day coincides with a public holiday or New Year, the employee is entitled to make up for the weekly rest day on the next working day.
At the same time as mentioned above, National Day 2/9/2023 falls on a Saturday, so employees will be compensated.
At the same time, according to the provisions of Notice 5034/TB-LDTBXH in 2022 on New Year holidays and National Day holidays in 2023, the number of days off for employees is clearly stated as follows:
- For employees who work on Saturday, the National Day holiday of September 2, 2023 will be off for 3 days. Specifically:
+ Off on September 2 and 01 day before (ie Friday and Saturday) and 01 day off weekly (Sunday). That is from September 1 to September 3
+ Or rest on September 2 and 1 day after that (ie Saturday and Sunday), you will be compensated for 1 day off on Monday of the next week. That is from September 2 to September 4
- For employees who do not have a working regime on Saturday, the National Day holiday of September 2, 2023 will be off for 4 days. Specifically:
+ If employees have a day off on September 2 and the previous day (ie Friday and Saturday), you will be entitled to 1 day off every week (Sunday) and 1 day off on the next Monday. That is, from September 1 to September 4
+ Off on September 2 and 01 day after that (ie Saturday and Sunday), employees will have 02 days off on Monday and Tuesday of the following week. That is, from September 2 to September 5.
- For officials and public employees, the National Day 2023 holiday is from September 1, 2023 to the end of September 4, 2023.
