What is Vietnam Standard TCVN 11892-1:2017 on Good Agricultural Practices (VIETGAP) - Part 1: Crop production about?
Vietnam Standard TCVN 11892-1:2017 is compiled by the Department of Crop Production, proposed by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, appraised by the Directorate of Standards, Metrology and Quality, and announced by the Ministry of Science and Technology.
Vietnam Standard TCVN 11892-1:2017 is compiled based on harmonization with ASEAN GAP and reference to several other GAP standards in the world such as GlobalG.A.P, JGAP, to guide organizations and individuals to produce and preliminarily process cultivated products to ensure food safety; product quality; occupational health and safety for producers; environmental protection and product traceability.
Vietnam Standard TCVN 11892-1:2017 has the scope of application as follows:
Vietnam Standard TCVN 11892-1:2017 stipulates the requirements for good agricultural practices in the production and preliminary processing of cultivated products used as food.
What are the other requirements for fresh fruits and vegetables produced under VietGAP specified in Vietnam Standard TCVN 11892-1:2017?
Under the provisions in Appendix A promulgated together with the Vietnam Standard TCVN 11892-1:2017, the other requirements for fresh fruits and vegetables produced under VietGAP are specified as follows:
Growing media
The raw materials of the growing media must have a clear origin, record, and keep records of the composition of raw materials and additives to the growing media.
The growing media for sprouts and mushrooms must be disinfected and stored away from microbial contamination.
Irrigation water
- For raw vegetables and instant fruits: in addition to meeting the provisions of 3.2.2.1.1, the microbial expenditure (E. coli) must not exceed the maximum allowable limit prescribed for surface water quality.
- For mushrooms and sprouts: must meet regulations on domestic water quality.
Fertilizer
- Do not use human waste as fertilizer.
- Do not use fertilizers in sprout production.
- For hydroponic production, the use, mixing and treatment of nutrients must be monitored, recorded, and recorded.
Pesticides and other chemicals
- Use for sprouts
Do not use chemicals and pesticides in preservation, seed treatment and production process, except in the case of seed sterilization, substances such as food alcohol, warm water ...
- Use for mushrooms
Do not use pesticides in production, or preservatives during preliminary processing.
Harvest
For raw vegetables and instant fruits do not expose the product to direct contact with the soil.
Product Management
- In case the facility produces many types of vegetables at the same time, samples must be taken and analyzed in groups: leafy vegetables, stems; fruit vegetables; root vegetables; and fruit vegetables.
- For raw vegetables and ready-to-eat fruits, additional regulations on limiting microbial contamination in food must be met [16]
What are the facilities as prescribed in Vietnam Standard TCVN 11892-1:2017?
Under the provisions of Clause 3.1.2 of the Vietnam Standard TCVN 11892-1:2017, there are regulations on facilities as follows:
Containers or storage for fertilizers, pesticides, and other chemicals
- Be sealed, not leaked to the outside; have danger warning signs; If it is a storge, the storge door must be locked and only those with tasks can enter the storge.
Do not place in the area of preliminary processing, product preservation, or daily life, and do not pollute water sources.
- Treatment tools and materials must be available in case of spills, spills of fertilizers, pesticides and chemicals.
Preliminary processing and storage (if any)
- Be built in suitable locations to limit the risk of pollution from smoke, dust, waste, and toxic chemicals from traffic, industry, craft villages, residential areas, hospitals, livestock breeding areas, slaughterhouses, cemeteries, landfills and other activities.
- The preliminary processing area must be arranged according to the one-way principle from input materials to final products to avoid cross-contamination.
Equipment, machinery, and tools for production and preliminary processing
- Be cleaned before, and after use and periodically maintained to avoid causing accidents to users and contaminating products.
- Packages and utensils in direct contact with products must meet the provisions of law on packages and utensils in contact with food [11]; [12]; [13];
Have a diagram of the production area; places to store fertilizers, plant protection drugs, equipment, machinery, and tools for production and preliminary processing; places for preliminary processing, storage of products (if any), and surrounding areas.
What are the regulations on working conditions and personal hygiene specified in Vietnam Standard TCVN 11892-1:2017?
Under Section 3.1.6, Vietnam Standard TCVN 11892-1:2017, there are regulations on working conditions and personal hygiene as follows:
- It is necessary to provide minimum and safe working and living conditions and equipment for workers.
EXAMPLE: Pesticide mixers and sprayers need to be fully equipped with tools, and equipment for weighing, measuring, spraying, and labor protection according to the instructions on the label of plant protection products such as gloves, masks ...
- Toilets and handwashing places must be clean and have personal hygiene instructions.
- There must be regulations on labor protection, and guidance on the safe use of equipment, machinery, and tools in the production process.
- Labor protection (clothes, gloves, masks, boots ...) must be cleaned before and after use and kept in the right place, not shared with storage of pesticides, fertilizers, and other chemicals.
- First aid equipment or kits and first aid instructions are required for treatment in case of need.
