Thus, pupils and students will also have holidays according to the number of days off their teachers are entitled to during the holiday. To be specific:
- For schools that teach 6 days per week: Students will have 3 days off (National Day Holiday 2023 lasts from September 1 to September 3).
- For schools that teach 5 days per week: Students will have 4 days off (National Day Holiday 2023 lasts from September 1 to September 4).
However, pupils and students need to follow specific holiday schedules on the official website and pages of their schools.
When is the opening ceremony of the 2023-2024 academic year in Vietnam held?
The Ministry of Education and Training has just issued Decision 2171/QD-BGDDT of 2023 download on the time frame for the 2023-2024 academic year for preschool education, general education, and continuing education.
According to Decision 2171/QD-BGDDT of 2023:
- For grade 1, the earliest school start is 2 weeks before the opening day. The opening ceremony will be on September 5, 2023.
- The first semester should end before January 15, 2024; the second semester should be completed before May 25, 2024, and the academic year before May 31, 2024.
- Evaluation for completion of primary education programs and junior high school graduation should be completed before June 30, 2024. Admission for new grades should be completed before July 31, 2024.
- The high school graduation exam and other national exams will follow the regulations and guidelines of the Ministry of Education and Training.
Students nationwide will return to school from August 2024.
The anticipated return to school for the 2023-2024 academic year ranges from August 21, 2023 - August 22, 2023 for grade 1.
The return to school schedule for other grades is expected to be earliest from August 29, 2023.
The national opening ceremony will be held on September 5, 2023.

According to Article 2 of Circular 32/2018/TT-BGDDT:
The general education program applies to:
1. first grade from academic year 2020-2021.
2. second and sixth grade from academic year 2021-2022
3. third and seventh grade from academic year 2022-2023
4. fourth, eighth and eleventh grade from academic year 2023-2024.
5. fifth, ninth and twelfth grade from academic year 2024-2025.
As per the above regulation, the 2023-2024 academic year will involve implementing the 2018 General Education Program for grades 1, 2, 3, 6, 7, and 10, and for the first time, the program will be applied to grades 4, 8, and 11.
The remaining grades, 5, 9, and 12 will follow the 2006 General Education Program.
In the 2024-2025 academic year, students in grades 5, 9, and 12 will switch to the 2018 General Education Program.

b) Time: 9 p.m. of May 7.
5. Liberation Day (April 30 of calendar year)
a) Hanoi City and Ho Chi Min City may fire high-range and short-range fireworks for no longer than 15 minutes;
b) Time: 9 p.m. of April 30.
