Pursuant to Article 39 Regulations on high school graduation exam promulgated together with Circular 15/2020/TT-BGDĐT (amended by Clause 18, Clause 19, Article 1 of Circular 06/2023/TT-BGDĐT) and Article 40 Regulations on high school graduation exams promulgated together with Circular 15/2020/TT-BGDĐT (amended by Clause 14, Article 1 of Circular 05/2021/TT-BGDĐT), There are basic differences between bonus points and extra points as follows:

- Bonus points are added based on the candidate's situation and area of permanent residence.

- Extra points are added based on the achievements of the candidates on the competitions, the certificates that the candidates have achieved.

- Bonus points can be added up to only 0.5 points

- Extra points can be added up to 2.0 points.

Pursuant to Article 39 Regulations on high school graduation exam promulgated together with Circular 15/2020/TT-BGDĐT (amended by Clause 18, 19, Article 1 of Circular 06/2023/TT-BGDĐT) stipulates the bonus points as follows:

- Continuing education candidates who are war invalids, sick soldiers, those receiving the same benefits as war invalids, sick soldiers with the degree of impairment under 81%;

- Children of war invalids, sick soldiers; those who are receiving the same benefits as war invalids, sick soldiers with the degree of impairment under 81% , Hero of the People’s Armed Force, Hero of Labor; children of Vietnamese Heroic Mother, Hero of the People’s Armed Force, Hero of Labor;

- Ethnic minority candidates;

- Kinh ethnic people and foreigners with a permanent residence during high school for at least 3 years in extremely disadvantaged communes, border communes, former revolution bases under Program 135 according to Decision No. 135/QD-TTg dated July 31, 1998 of the Prime Minister of Vietnam (from when these communes completed Program 135 to earlier); extremely disadvantaged communes in coastal areas and islands; communes in Zones I, II, III, communes with extremely disadvantaged villages in ethnic minority areas and mountainous areas according to current regulations of the Prime Minister of Vietnam or the Minister, Head of the Committee for Ethnic Minority Affairs and have attended high schools not located in districts of centrally affiliated cities for at least two-thirds of their high school time;

- Those who are infected with dioxin, children of those infected with dioxin, children of revolutionary activists infected with chemical toxins, those who have deformities, malformations, working capacity loss as a result of exposing to chemical toxins certified by competent authorities;

- Continuing education candidates whose age is 35 and above at the time of the exam.

- Minority ethnics people who live in extremely disadvantaged communes, border communes, former revolution bases under the cover of program 135, extremely disadvantaged communes in coastal areas and islands specified in current regulation by the Prime Minister; live in extremely disadvantaged communes in Zone I,II,III of mountainous areas and highlands specified in current regulation by the Committee of Ethnic Minority Affairs; study at high schools located outside the urban districts area of central-affiliated cities for at least two thirds of high school time.

- Continuing education candidates who are war invalids, sick soldiers; those who are receiving the same benefits as war invalids, sick soldiers with the degree of impairment from 81% and above;

For team prizes in practical experiments in Physics, Chemistry, Biology; Art competition; sports; defense education sports festival; science and technology contests; international letter writing organized by the Department of Education in collaboration with professional disciplines from the provincial level and above at the high school level

Points are added only for national tournaments; the number of players, athletes and actors of the team tournament according to the specific regulations of the Organizing Committee of each tournament; The level of extra points added to individuals in the team tournament is the same as for the individual tournament specified at this point. Learners who have won many different prizes in many competitions are entitled to only one level of points for the highest award category.
