When there are dividing lines separate vehicles traveling in opposite directions (dividing lines), are vehicles allowed to cross the lines? - Mr. Nhu (Hanoi, Vietnam)

Vietnam: When there are dividing lines separate vehicles traveling in opposite directions (dividing lines), are vehicles allowed to cross the lines?

Pursuant to Appendix G promulgated together with Vietnam National Technical Regulation QCVN 41:2019/BGTVT stipulating the dividing lines separate vehicles traveling in opposite directions (dividing lines), the vehicle must keep to the right and must not cross the 1.2 and 1.3 lines.

Line 1.2: Dividing lines separate vehicles traveling in opposite directions (dividing lines), single continuous line:

Line 1.3: Dividing lines separate vehicles traveling in opposite directions (dividing lines), two continuous parallel lines :

The meaning of the 1.2 line: separate vehicles traveling in opposite directions; Vehicles must keep to the right and must not cross the line.

About the specifications:

- Line 1.2 is a single continuous line, with a width of 15 cm. This line is often used on roads that do not guarantee to overtake visibility, where there is a high risk of head-to-head traffic accidents on roads with 2 or 3 lanes of motor vehicles and without a median strip between them.

- Line 1.2 can only be used to separate vehicles traveling in opposite directions when the width of the lane meets the movement conditions of large vehicles allowed to participate in traffic on the route under consideration.

The meaning of the 1.3 line: Used to separate vehicles traveling in opposite directions, vehicles must keep to the right and must not cross the line. This line is often used to separate vehicles travelling in opposite directions for roads with 4 or more motor vehicle lanes, without a median strip on a road segment that does not ensure overtaking visibility, and the risk of confrontational traffic accidents or in other necessary locations.

About the specifications:

- Line 1.3 is two continuous parallel lines, the line width b = 15 cm, the distance inside the two single lines is at least 15 cm; The largest is 50 cm. If the distance between the two inner edges of the single lines is more than 50 cm, the yellow diagonal line channelization line (line 4.1) shall be used.

- This line is often used to separate vehicles traveling in opposite directions for roads with 4 or more motor vehicle lanes, without a median strip on a road segment that does not ensure overtaking visibility, and risks of traffic accidents for vehicles or in other necessary positions.

- In the case of roads with 2 or 3 motor vehicle lanes, without a median strip, the 1.3 line may be used at necessary positions to emphasize the danger. The effect of line 1.3 in this case is similar to line 1.2.
