What military rank will citizens participating in military service in 2024 be given?

Under Clause 2, Article 8 of the Law on Military Service 2015:

2. Military ranks of non-commissioned officers and enlisted soldiers:
a) Master Sergeant;
b) Sergeant;
c) Corporal;
d) Private first class;
dd) Private.

In addition, Article 6 of Circular 07/2016/TT-BQP stipulates:

Time of promotion to the Private rank
1. A citizen who is conscripted into the Vietnam People's Army by the Law on Military Service shall be promoted to the Private rank from the Soldier accepting date; in case of non-Soldier accepting or concentrated receipt of soldiers, he/she shall be promoted to the Private rank from the date of receipt by the People's Army unit.
2. Citizens who have been enrolled to study at schools and recognized as military personnel by competent authorities shall be promoted to the Private rank from the date of recognition of military personnel.
3. Second-class reservists, when being assigned to appointed reserve units, shall be promoted to the Private rank from the date of issuance of the decision on assignation and appointment.

Thus, citizens participating in military service in 2024 will be promoted to the Private rank and promoted to the military rank corresponding to the position; if they reach excellent achievements in the performance of duties shall be promoted to military rank ahead of time; if they reach particularly excellent achievements, they shall be considered for promotion to outstanding military ranks according to regulations.

When are citizens participating in military service in 2024 in Vietnam promoted to military ranks?

In Article 8 of the Law on Military Service 2015, positions and rank titles of non-commissioned officers and enlisted soldiers are specified as follows:

Under the provisions of Clause 1 Article 7 of Circular 07/2016/TT-BQP, the time limit for consideration for promotion to military ranks of non-commissioned officers and enlisted soldiers is as follows:

(1) Promotion to the Private first class rank: Private has a full 06 months of active service.

(2) Promotion to the Corporal rank

- Private First Class is appointed as Deputy Squad Leader or equivalent position, regardless of term.

- Positions with the rank of Corporal and professional and technical men who have held the Private First Class rank for full 06 months.

(3) Promotion to the Sergeant rank

- Corporal shall be appointed to the post of Squad leader or equivalent positions, regardless of duration.

- Positions with the rank of Sergeant and professional and technical men who have held the Corporal rank for full 06 months.

(4) Promotion to the Master Sergeant rank

- Sergeant holding the position of Squad leader or equivalent posts shall be appointed as Deputy platoon leader or equivalent posts, regardless of duration.

- Professional and technical men with intermediate or higher qualifications who are properly staffed and have held the Sergeant rank for full 06 months.

(5) Non-commissioned officers and enlisted soldiers who successfully complete their duties and are rewarded Emulation Soldier or higher shall be considered for promotion to one rank of military rank; if they reach exceptional achievements, they shall be considered for promotion to a superior military rank regardless of the rank, position and duration specified in case (1) (2) (3) (4), but not exceeding one level above the prescribed military rank of the current position.

What are the requirements for citizens to perform military service in 2024 in Vietnam?

Under the provisions of Article 4 of Circular 148/2018/TT-BQP, the requirements for citizens to perform military service in 2024 in Vietnam are:

(1) Age:

+ Citizens from the age of 18 to under 26.

+ Graduate male citizen who enters university or college and postpones conscription for a training course of a level will be drafted until he turns 28.

(2) Political requirements:

+ Comply with Joint Circular No. 50/2016/TTLT-BQP-BCA dated April 15, 2016 of the Minister of National Defense – the Minister of Public Security on provisions for political requirements for conscripting citizens into the Vietnamese People’s Army.

+ Drafting for crucial and classified agencies, units and positions in the Army; ceremonial battalion; professional National Guards and Military shall comply with regulations and law of the Ministry of National Defense.

(3) Health requirements:

+ Draft citizens with health type 1, 2, 3 as specified in Joint Circular No. 16/2016/TTLT-BYT-BQP dated June 30, 2016 of the Minister of Health – the Minister of National Defense on provisions for pre-enlistment check-up.

+ Drafting for agencies, units and positions specified in Point b Clause 2 of this Article must ensure separate standards as regulated by the Ministry of National Defense.

+ Do not conscript citizens with health type 3 and eye disorders (1.5 dioptre myopia or higher, hypermetropia at all degrees); drug addicts, those contracted with HIV, AIDS.

(4) Cultural requirements:

+ Draft citizens who finished 8th grade or higher in descending order. In areas where the drafting quota cannot be guaranteed due to hardship, request the competent authorities to consider and decide to draft citizens who finished 7th grade.

+ Communes in remote and isolated areas, in areas with economic - social hardships according to regulations and law; ethnic minorities below 10,000 people shall draft no more than 25% of the citizens who finished primary education and the citizens who finished lower secondary education are drafted to fill the rest.
