What are the duties of students at all education levels in Vietnam?

For primary school students

Pursuant to Article 34 of the primary school charter promulgated together with Circular 28/2020/TT-BGDĐT, the duties of primary school students in Vietnam are:

- Study and train according to the educational plan and rules of the school; have a sense of self-discipline in learning and training to comprehensively develop qualities and capacities according to the objectives of the general education program at the primary level.

- Fully and effectively perform academic tasks; know how to self-study under the guidance of a teacher; actively and actively participate in experiential activities, apply learned knowledge into real life; exercise your body, maintain personal hygiene.

- Be filial to parents and grandparents; show them respect and civility; be kind to your instructors and elders; and come together to support your friends, family, and those who are less fortunate or have disabilities;

- Abide by rules and protect school property and public places; observe traffic order and safety; maintain hygiene and protect the environment

- Contribute to fostering, preservation, and enhancement of traditions of schools and localities.

For secondary school students

Pursuant to the provisions of Article 34 of the Charter of lower secondary schools, upper secondary schools with many education levels promulgated together with Circular 32/2020/TT-BGDĐT, the duties of secondary school students in Vietnam are:

- Learn and train according to the curricula and education plans of their schools.

- Respect their parents, officials, teachers, and staff of their schools, and those older than them; maintain solidarity and mutual support in learning and training; conform to the charter and rules of their schools; and abide by the law.

- Take exercises and maintain personal hygiene.

- Participate in group activities of their schools and classes, Ho Chi Minh Young Pioneer Organization, and Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union; help their families, join physical and social activities and environmental protection activities, and maintain traffic order and safety.

- Protect school and public property; contribute to fostering, preservation, and enhancement of school traditions.

What is the time frame of the 2023-2024 academic year in Vietnam?

In Decision 2171/QD-BGDĐT in 2023, the time frame of the 2023-2024 academic year in Vietnam is specified as follows:

- Return to school the earliest 01 week before the start date of school. Particularly for grade 1, return to school at the earliest 02 weeks before the start of school.

- Organize the opening ceremony of the new academic year on September 5, 2023.

- End the first semester by January 15, 2024, complete the second semester education plan by May 25, 2024, and end the academic year by May 31, 2024.

- Recognize elementary school completion and recognition of secondary school graduation by June 30, 2024

- Complete enrollment for first grades by July 31, 2024.

- Organize the high school graduation exam and national exams under the regulations and guidelines of the Ministry of Education and Training.

- At the same time, the local plan for time of the academic year must ensure the number of weeks of practical study:

+ For preschool education, general education: 35 weeks of practical study (semester I has 18 weeks, semester II has 17 weeks).

+ For continuing education ( lower secondary and upper secondary education programs).

+ For grade 9 at the lower secondary level and grade 12 at the upper secondary level, there are 32 weeks of practical study (each semester has 16 weeks).

+ For grades 6, 7, and 8 at the lower secondary level and grades 10 and 11 at the upper secondary level, there are 35 weeks of practical study (semester I has 18 weeks, semester II has 17 weeks).

- The plan for the time of the academic year must be suitable to the characteristics and practical conditions of the locality.

- Public holidays and Tet holidays shall comply with the provisions of the Labor Code and annual guiding documents.

- Teachers' annual leave is taken during summer vacation or may be staggered at other times of the year to accommodate local academic year specifics and time plans.

- The plan for the time of the academic year should ensure uniformity for all education levels in a residential area, especially in schools with multi-education levels.
