“What is a technical drawing? What are the current regulations on the layout of detailed technical drawings in Vietnam?” - asked Ms. T.H (Binh Dinh)

What is a technical drawing in Vietnam?

Technical drawing is the own language of the technical drawing major and a popular language for artists, engineers, and designers to describe materials, shapes, sizes, technical characteristics ... details, objects, and easy-to-understand and detailed textures to create products that are true to the design.

Technical drawings are means of communication including representations (cutouts, projections,...) using products, design, construction in engineering, data recording technical requirements, dimensions,... drawn by the architect but must ensure a uniform general rule (ISO) to show the texture, shape, magnitude ... of the object.

Technical drawings are also purchased, sold, exchanged, and copyrighted, and are one of intellectual property.

What are the requirements for the location of technical drawing statements in Vietnam?

Under Subsection 3.1 Section 3 of National Standard TCVN 3824:2008, the requirements for the location of technical drawing statements in Vietnam are as follows:

General requirements
3.1. Installation location
3.1.1. The detailed statement can be installed immediately on the drawing or as a separate document.
3.1.2. When a detailed statement is installed on a drawing, its position must be installed in a direction that is easy to read the drawing. This manifest can be connected to the name frame (see TCVN 3821). The contour of the statement can be drawn in bold solid strokes (type A of TCVN 8).
3.1.3. When the detailed statement is a separate document, the details must be assigned together with a number as recorded on the original drawing.
However, to distinguish between detailed footnotes in detailed statements and detailed citations on original drawings, the word "Manifest" should be added before the detailed citation number in the detailed manifest (or similar term).
The paper size used for detailed statements as a separate document must be selected in accordance with TCVN 7285

Accordingly, the detailed technical drawing statements in Vietnam can be installed immediately on the drawing or as a separate document.

What are the current regulations on the layout of detailed technical drawings in Vietnam?

Under Subsection 3.2 Section 3 of National Standard TCVN 3824:2008, the layout of detailed technical drawings in Vietnam is specified as follows:

(1) The detailed statement should be arranged in columns, drawn with bold solid strokes or solid strokes (Type A or B according to TCVN 8), to allow information to be entered below the following headings (the order of these headings is optional)

- details;

- description;

- quantity;

- references;

- materials.

NOTE: If necessary, columns for individual requirements shall be added.

(2) The "details" column indicates the number of detailed footnotes as indicated on the corresponding drawing. (See TCVN 7287).

(3) The "description" column contains the name of the detail. Abbreviations can be used if there is no confusion. If the part is a standard part (e.g. bolts, nuts, rivets, etc.) the standardized designation must be used by the corresponding standard.

(4) The "quantity" column contains the total of each part, necessary for a complete mounting drawing.

(5) The "references" column is used to identify parts that have not been fully represented in the original drawing, such as parts that have been represented on other drawings, typical parts, or pre-fabricated parts. In this case, the numbers of other drawings, the corresponding standards, codes, or any other similar information, can be written in this column.

(6) The "materials" column records the type and quality of the materials used. If it is a standard material, its standard symbol must be inscribed.

(7) The detailed statement may include other additional information, necessary for the final products, for example:

- Storage number;

- Density;

- Delivery status;

- Notes;

What is the order of data entered in the detailed technical drawing statements in Vietnam?

Under Subsection 3.3 Section 3 of National Standard TCVN 3824:2008, the order of data entered in the detailed technical drawing statements in Vietnam is specified as follows:

General requirements
3.3. Entered data
3.3.1. The entered data must be recorded in horizontal rows in corresponding columns. For clarity, entries must be separated from each other by bold solid strokes or solid strokes (style A or style B of TCVN 8).
3.3.2. The order of the entered data must be by the order of detailed footnotes. When the detailed statement is on the drawing, this order must be written from bottom to top, with the header order of the columns at the bottom. When the detailed statement is a separate document, this order must be written from top to bottom, with the order of column headings at the top.
3.3.3. The entered data may be recorded by handwriting, patterns, or any other appropriate manner. Priority is given to capital letters as specified in ISO 3098-1. For all letters, including mechanical ones, see the corresponding characteristics in ISO 6428.

Thus, the order of data entered in the detailed technical drawing statements in Vietnam must be by the order of detailed footnotes. When the detailed statement is on the drawing, this order must be written from bottom to top, with the header order of the columns at the bottom. When the detailed statement is a separate document, this order must be written from top to bottom, with the order of column headings at the top.
