What are the requirements for termite prevention by bait station system in Vietnam under National Standard TCVN 7958: 2017?
In Subsection 7.6 Section 7 of the National Standard TCVN 7958: 2017 on Protection of buildings - Termite prevention for a new building, the requirements for termite prevention by bait station systems in Vietnam are specified as follows:
- Purpose
+ Create a termite prevention system as soon as new termites appear in the vicinity and in the building.
- Requirements
Bait stations must be effective at baiting or killing termites for a minimum period of 3 months. The bait station must be able to lure termites and kill termite nests when termites enter only one bait station.
The bait station system for termite prevention must be arranged in an outer layer, and an inner layer. The outer layer consists of a minimum of one row around the building combined with independent bait stations where termites usually reside.
Bait stations must be located in places where termites often pass to enter the building or go to forage in the building.
- Implement
Install the outer bait station layer: Place the bait stations in the outer layer in rows with a distance between bait stations from 1 m to 5 m (average is 2 m to 3 m), from 0.3 m to 0.6 m from the foundation wall of the building. If it is not possible or difficult to install a bait station, it can be installed farther but not more than 3 m from the foot of the project.
Weak locations such as where there is a technical pipeline entering the project, subsidence, woody stumps, and ornamental stumps in a 3m wide strip next to the base of the wall need to be arranged 2 to 3 rows of bait stations.
Install independent bait stations: Under woody trees, next to or inside auxiliary buildings located within the construction site, independent bait stations should be placed to limit termite sources from entering the building.
Install the inner bait station layer: The bait station layer inside the building is placed inside the body, the foundation of the building in places where termites often work such as: on the ground floor, rooftop (for buildings with concrete ceilings, planting trees on the terrace), next to the door frame, next to concrete pillars, next to stairs, next to technical boxes, next to power lines, plantation earthen tanks. The distance of these bait stations on the ground floor and rooftop is not nearly less than 5 m from each other, not more than 10 m away.
Termite prevention by bait station system is carried out after completing the wall coat, during the completion of the project. In case of using a bait station system for termite prevention in combination with other measures, other measures shall be applied first, and then the bait station will be installed.
Bait stations must be periodically inspected to restore the bait station system if violated or bait placed if there is an infestation, the maximum time between inspections should not exceed 3 months.
When building bait stations inside the building, limit the installation of bait stations in locations that affect the aesthetics of the project.
It is possible to use one of the following two methods for controlling termites:
- Method 1: Use a bait station with available food and baits, termites will exploit baits when entering and exploiting food in the bait station.
- Method 2: Use a decoy station, periodically check, when termites are detected exploiting bait, and place termite baits.
What are the requirements for termite prevention system by drug barrier in Vietnam?
In subsection 7.5 Section 7, the National Standard TCVN 7958: 2017 on Protection of buildings - Termite prevention for new building, the requirements for termite prevention system by drug barrier in Vietnam are as follows:
- Purposes
Create a separation layer, preventing termites from entering from the outside into the building, from the foundation to the body of the building, and vice versa.
- Requirements
Termites do not penetrate the barrier.
- Implement
+ Termite prevention underground barrier around the foundation wall
Create a mixture of drugs with soil to form a vertical barrier for termite prevention that surrounds continuously close to the inside and outside of the foundation wall of the building to prevent termites from entering from the outside to the inside and from the inside to the foundation wall of the building (also known as termite moat).
The termite prevention barrier inside the building must be at least 30 cm wide and at least 40 cm deep; The outer termite prevention barrier should be from 40 cm to 50 cm wide and from 60 cm to 80 cm deep. In order for the barrier to be sufficiently closed, the granular composition of the soil must be less than 8 cm in diameter, and the grain composition of less than 0.2 mm in size in the soil should be 50% larger in volume. The medicinal soil mixture must be compacted and have a protective layer at the surface to avoid rain and sun.
+ Termite prevention barrier on the ground floor
The mixture of termite prevention drugs mixed with soil on the ground floor to form a horizontal termite barrier must be at least 10 cm thick to prevent termite invasion, nesting, or termite penetration from the ground to the body of the building. In order for the barrier to be sufficiently closed, the granular composition of the soil must be less than 3 cm in diameter, and the grain composition of less than 0.2 mm in size in the soil must be 50% greater in mass. The medicinal soil mixture must be compacted and have a protective layer at the surface to avoid rain and sun.
What are the requirements for termite protection by stainless steel wire mesh systems in Vietnam?
In Subsection 7.3 Section 7 of the National Standard TCVN 7958: 2017 on Protection of buildings - Termite prevention for new building, the requirements for termite protection by stainless steel wire mesh systems in Vietnam are as follows:
- Purpose
Create a separation layer, preventing termites from penetrating from the foundation to the body of the building, from the adjacent building body to enter the building to be protected.
-Requirements
Termites do not get through the wire mesh system.
- Implement
Only use specialized wire mesh with a strength not lower than grade 304. Mesh steel threads must have a minimum diameter of 0.16 mm; The maximum size of the mesh is 0.72 mm × 0.49 mm.
The stainless steel wire mesh system is arranged during the construction of the building and must create a continuous partition between the foundation and the body of the building, between the body of this building and the body of the adjacent building to prevent termites from moving from the foundation to the body of the building or from the body of adjacent works to and vice versa. stainless steel wire mesh can also be bonded with grade 200 concrete slabs to form a continuous separating layer. Do not expose stainless steel wire mesh to metals that can cause electrostatic corrosion.
Locations arranged with stainless steel wire mesh include the ground floor or basement floor; wall surface adjacent to adjacent buildings; technical pipes pass through walls and foundations; junction between the base of the wall and the foundation.
