What are the fitness standards to be a flight attendant in Vietnam?

Pursuant to the provisions of Article 2 of Joint Circular 18/2012/TTLT-BYT-BGTVT stipulates as follows:

Airline Employee Health Standard Grouping
1. Group 1 prescribes health standards for the following subjects:
a/ Pilots of commercial aircraft;
b/ The pilot of the aircraft belongs to a multi-member crew;
c/ The pilot of the air transport aircraft;
d) The applicant enters the school to perform one of the jobs specified at Points a, b and c, Clause 1 of this Article.
2. Group 2 prescribes health standards for the following subjects:
a) Flight attendants;
b/ Pilots of private aircraft;
c/ Persons performing aerial mechanized tasks;
d) Aerial navigators;
dd) The operator of the glider;
f/ The balloon operator;
g) The applicant enters the school to perform one of the jobs specified at Points a, b, c, d, dd and e, Clause 2 of this Article.
3. Group 3 shall prescribe health standards for the following subjects:
a) Air traffic controllers;
b) The applicant enters the school to work as an air traffic controller.

At the same time, pursuant to the Appendix promulgated together with Joint Circular 18/2012/TTLT-BYT-BGTVT stipulates as follows:

According to the above regulations, if you want to become a flight attendant, you must meet the physical condition in group 2 according to the table above.

Thus, to be able to become a flight attendant, the male must have a scratch height of 1m62 or more and a female of 1m58 or more.

Can I be a flight attendant if I am nearsighted in Vietnam?

Pursuant to Section B of the Appendix promulgated together with Joint Circular 18/2012/TTLT-BYT-BGTVT stipulates as follows:

6. Vision
6.1. Vision - General conditions
a/ There must not be any abnormalities in visual function and eye-related organs. There are no pathological processes, acute or chronic, sequelae resulting from trauma or surgery affecting flight labor and flight safety.
b) Comprehensive visual examination must be conducted every 2 years for aircraft pilots under 40 years old and once every 1 year for aircraft pilots aged 40 years or older.
6.2 Vision – Requirements for functions
a) Distance vision: Flight attendants with reduced vision who must wear glasses while working are still eligible provided that they always have glasses to wear and must have glasses in reserve during their duties. To be granted a health certificate, flight attendants must have vision in each eye of 6/10 (without glasses) and 10/10 (with glasses). Or one eye 7/10, the other 5/10 (without glasses). Or when looking at both eyes (without glasses) no lower than 6/10..
b) Refractive error: At the first physical examination, refractive error should not exceed ± 0.5 dp. In the following physical examinations should not exceed +05/-08 dp. The binocular refractive error difference does not exceed 03 dp. Astigmatism does not exceed 03 dp.
c)Market: Normal.
d)Chromatic: Normal

Accordingly, nearsightedness is still allowed to work as a flight attendant.

How do flight attendants have to meet hearing requirements in Vietnam?

Pursuant to the provisions of Section B of the Appendix promulgated together with Joint Circular 18/2012/TTLT-BYT-BGTVT stipulates as follows:

Otolaryngology – Functional requirements
a) Must be able to hear speech usually 5 meters away and whisper 0.5 meters.
b/ Monophonic hearing must be checked at the first physical examination followed by every 2 years.
c)During the first physical examination, each ear must hear sounds of 20 dB intensity at frequencies of 500, 1000, 2000 Hz and 35 dB at 3000Hz. If hearing is reduced by 05 dB with the upper limit, or at two test frequencies, monophonic hearing should be checked at least once a year.
d) During subsequent physical examinations, each ear must hear sounds of 35 dB intensity at frequencies of 500, 1000, 2000 Hz and 50 dB at 3000 Hz. If hearing is reduced by 05 dB with the upper limit, or reduced at two test frequencies, monophonic hearing should be checked at least once a year.
dd) Atrial tube.
Good vestibular – cerebellar function.

According to the above regulations, flight attendants must meet the following hearing requirements:

- Must be able to hear speech usually 5 meters away and whisper 0.5 meters.

What are the duties of a flight attendant in Vietnam?

Pursuant to Article 7 of Circular 10/2018/TT-BGTVT (amended by Clause 4 Article 1 of Circular 35/2021/TT-BGTVT) stipulates as follows:

Article 7. Tasks by titles of aviation staff
1. Aviation security inspectors shall carry out security inspection and screening, maintain order, patrol and stand guard at airports, aerodromes and other facilities in accordance with regulations specified in legislative documents about aviation security.
2. Operators of aviation vehicle/equipment regularly operating in restricted areas of an airport/aerodrome shall operate aviation vehicles/equipment in restricted areas of an airport/aerodrome in accordance with regulations specified in legislative documents about airport/aerodrome management and operation.
3. Aircraft ground handling staff shall perform one or more following tasks: supervising, coordinating or servicing passengers, baggage, cargo and aircrafts at airports, aerodromes and aviation service providers beyond the boundary of the airport and aerodromes issued with a license by the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam.
4. Airport/aerodrome rescue and firefighting staff shall deliver a rescue and firefighting service in the event of an airport/aerodrome accident or incident.
5. The titles of aviation staff specified in Clauses 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12 Article 6 of this Circular shall perform their tasks as prescribed in legislative documents about aviation, regarding aircraft, aircraft operation and air navigation services management.

According to the above regulations, flight attendants will perform their duties as prescribed in specialized aviation legal documents in the field of aircraft, aircraft operation, management and assurance of flight activities.
