Article 10 of Decree 105/2012/ND-CP stipulates the duration and rituals of mourning as follows:
Duration and Rituals of Mourning
The duration of the State Funeral is 02 (two) days. During this time, all agencies and offices nationwide, as well as Vietnamese representative offices abroad, shall fly the flag at half-mast, with a mourning ribbon (the ribbon’s width is 1/10 of the flag’s width, the length follows the flag's length, and the flag is only flown up to 2/3 of the pole’s height, using the ribbon).
According to the above regulation, the duration of the 2024 State Funeral is 02 (two) days.

1. The State Funeral is held at the National Funeral Hall, No. 5 Tran Thanh Tong, Hanoi (if held in Hanoi); the Funeral Hall of Military Hospital 175 or the Funeral Hall at 25 Le Quy Don, District 3, Ho Chi Minh City (if held in Ho Chi Minh City).
2. Burial at Mai Dich Cemetery, Hanoi; Ho Chi Minh City Cemetery or cremation, electronic burial, burial in the hometown or other local cemeteries according to the family's wishes.
The 2024 State Funeral is held at the National Funeral Hall, No. 5 Tran Thanh Tong, Hanoi (if held in Hanoi).The Funeral Hall of Military Hospital 175 (if held in Ho Chi Minh City).

Are wreaths allowed at the 2024 State Funeral in Vietnam?
According to Article 13 of Decree 105/2012/ND-CP on organizing the funeral of Vietnamese officials, public employees:
Wreaths in the State Funeral
1. The Funeral Organizing Committee prepares 06 (six) wreaths with red cloth ribbons and gold letters from the Central Executive Committee of the Communist Party, the National Assembly, the President, the Government of Vietnam, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, and the family; after the delegations have paid their respects, the wreaths are placed fixedly on either side of the altar.
2. The Funeral Organizing Committee prepares 30 (thirty) rotating wreaths. The funeral announcement indicates: Delegations coming to pay respects should not bring wreaths, only bring black cloth ribbons, 1.2 m x 0.2 m in size, with the white letters “Kính viếng” and below it a small line indicating the name of the agency, organization, or individual, to be attached to the rotating wreaths prepared by the Funeral Organizing Committee.
According to the above regulation, the wreaths are prepared by the Funeral Organizing Committee.
Therefore, when paying respects, agencies, organizations, and individuals should not bring wreaths, only black cloth ribbons, 1.2 m x 0.2 m in size, with the white letters “Kính viếng” and below it a small line indicating the name of the agency, organization, or individual, to be attached to the wreaths prepared by the Funeral Organizing Committee.
When is information about the State Funeral in Vietnam officially announced?
The reporting and publishing of information about the State Funeral in the media are regulated in Article 9 of Decree 105/2012/ND-CP as follows:
Reporting and Publishing on Media about the State Funeral
1. Reporting the sad news
When there is no official announcement from the Funeral Organizing Committee, the mass media shall only briefly report the death. After the formation of the Funeral Organizing Committee and the official announcement of the funeral, the mass media may then report the sad news and publish articles introducing the deceased.
2. Publishing on mass media
a) The Nhan Dan Newspaper and other central and local press agencies shall report on the State Funeral, including: communique, list of the State Funeral Committee, Funeral Organizing Committee; biography, photo of the deceased; nationwide mourning rituals; announcements of the visitation, funeral service, burial, and gratitude from the State Funeral Committee;
b) The Central Documentary and Science Film Studio shall make documentary films of the visitation, funeral service, and burial. The Voice of Vietnam, Vietnam Television, and Vietnam News Agency shall broadcast and televise live the visitation, funeral service, and burial.
According to the above regulation, after the formation of the Funeral Organizing Committee and the official announcement of the funeral, the mass media may then report the sad news and publish articles introducing the deceased.
Previously, the mass media shall only briefly report the death.
Information about the 2024 State Funeral will be published in the media as follows:
(1) The Nhan Dan Newspaper and other central and local press agencies shall report on the State Funeral, including:
- Communique, list of the State Funeral Committee, Funeral Organizing Committee;
- Biography, photo of the deceased;
- Nationwide mourning rituals;
- Announcements of the visitation, funeral service, burial, and gratitude from the State Funeral Committee.
(2) The Central Documentary and Science Film Studio shall make documentary films of the visitation, funeral service, and burial.
The Voice of Vietnam, Vietnam Television, and Vietnam News Agency shall broadcast and televise live the visitation, funeral service, and burial.
What are the regulations on visitation during the State Funeral in Vietnam?
According to Article 14 of Decree 105/2012/ND-CP, the Funeral Organizing Committee arranges the visitation groups as follows:
- 02 (two) soldiers carrying the wreath go ahead,
- Followed by the head of the group, to the right of the head is the officer leading the visitation, and the members of the visitation group go in two rows.
The Funeral Organizing Committee shall arrange for the reception and placement of foreign delegations, diplomatic missions, consular offices, offices of international organizations in Vietnam, and other foreign agencies and individuals who wish to pay respects and sign the condolence book.
After the visitation, the head of the delegation signs the condolence book. During the visitation, the Military Band plays the "Hồn tử sĩ" music.
